i agree you should only be able to vote on DVDs you ACTUALLY have and can verify.

This may work for big US titles with lots of potential owners but I can tell you for certain that I have stopped incorrect data on a significant number of R2 UK titles that I don't own by No voting because (for example) I don't need to own a title to know that someone changing the overview to French without changing the locality from UK is making an error, I can tell if an (identical cover) scan is an improvement, I can read and compare overviews from the cover in the database and I can easily check CLT results...

Yes, the system CAN be abused but don't assume that everyone who doesn't own a title can't be of use in the voting process... not forgetting some people use their 'wishlist' to separate their and their children's/partners collections and so may well indeed own the titles in it.

can you only vote on stuff that you, yourself have in your collection?

No, it suffices to have the profile in your Wishlist.
Even though I (and many others) think that you shouldn't vote on profiles you don't actually own.

how's that? when i goto "unvoted pending updates" all i see is one's i own. i agree you should only be able to vote on DVDs you ACTUALLY have and can verify.

As Forget_the_Rest said you can vote on all. (Owned, Ordered and Wishlist)
But you have always the possibility to vote with neutral on a contribution, you can't vote serious or you wouldn't like to vote, so that this contribution doesn't remain on the unvoted list.

I'll agree with most of what you said but the above I see problems with.

For the scans, while you can see if one is clearer than the other, if there's a colour difference you can't tell which is more accurate to the actual cover.

For taking the overview solely from what's in the online, who's to say that the online has the correct cover scan? It's possible that the wrong one has slipped through the net and has different info (ie a re-issue might have corrected a spelling error).

I think they should forget about the votes and let the screeners guess.
It would come out just about as good from what I've seen.
We don't need stinkin' IMDB's errors, we make our own.

I strongly advise against clicking on the Neutral button:

it is abstention from voting.

And not even increases the 'Contribution Votes Cast'.

I vote neutral all the time.  I know it's abstaining from voting.  That's why I'm clicking it.

And are there seriously people who care about their Contribution Votes Cast?  Really? I don't have any clue what mine is and have no desire to find out. Is that even a real value somewhere? If that's why people are voting, then that statistic should be removed.

It was really, really funny.  Too bad it had to be removed!

It is a much better choice than voting yes 'just because'.

Sorry, but a lot of the contributions I see are in my wish list and I can't honestly determine whether or not they are correct.  So what is the point of voting for something I can't verify?  If I vote YES all the time, I may well be contributing to bad data in the database.  At least my neutral vote makes the contribution disappear from my screen.

I also agree with Mark.  Who cares about his "Contribution Votes Cast" static?  What does it have to do with anything?

and four re releases are allowed.

Which four re-releases in particular?

BTW re-releases work fine, just use the discID instead of the UPC, It's not rocket science,
