Dragon Dynasty titles have pretty well been perfect DVDs thus far.  Great transfers, original aspect ratio, multi-channel sound in original Chinese, option to watch dubbed in English, with or without subs, and plenty of extras.  Also they only pick the best action movies from the last 40 years of Asian cinema, so you pretty well can't go wrong.

It's disappointing to hear some of the extras may be scaled back, but if that means more DD titles with all of the above, I'm all for it.  DD titles are one of the very few releasing companies I can pick up sight-unseen and know that I am likely to enjoy the film, and will have no problems at all that the features meet my criteria (good transfer, digitally cleaned up, original 5.1 soundtrack, widescreen, and English subs).

The scaling back of extras seems to be two-fold: the financial shape of The Weinstein Company and the departure of Bey Logan and Andy White, the two men mainly responsible for the UK label Hong Kong Legends.  Let's just hope the same thing doesn't happen: when the two men left, the label eked out a few more releases, with a handful of extras, before finally collapsing.

Unfortunately, they were moving a bit away from this, with lesser, more modern releases like Dragon Squad (renamed Dragon Heat) and Robin-B-Hood, because newer films performed better sales wise.  I recall that Bey Logan mentioned in an interview a year ago that they were cutting back on some older films because of this.

Ah interesting.  I bought Dragon Heat mainly because it had Sammo Hung in it, although I do have to say that I couldn't stand the slapstick in most of his early movies.  Dragon Heat is pretty good, I enjoyed it, but you certainly can't compare it to an epic such as Seven Swords or Black Scorpion.  However most of the DD releases have been modern cop/action movies which makes Dragon Heat a pretty good fit ; Police Story trilogy, Infernal Affairs trilogy, Protege, KillZone, Invisible Target, PTU, Flashpoint, etc.

Robin-B-Hood is a mystery on the other hand.  I haven't seen it, but it just looks incredibly lame from the poster art.

Jeez, they don't last long.  Get them if you see them, according to wikipedia, these Dragon Dynasty DVDs are already out of print :

The Fortune Star films that Dragon Dynasty did release have also now gone out of print:

    *
          o Above the Law
          o Crime Story
          o Last Hurrah for Chivalry
          o Police Story
          o Police Story 2
          o The Royal Tramp Collection
          o Shanghai Express

Was wondering why the Police Stories weren't on the DD site.  Now I know.
