If that's what we're doing, I have quite a bunch of theatrical version/extended cut blu-rays to re-edit...

Just out of curiosity, T!M: how do you handle cases where the credits differ between the two cuts? Use dividers or just put them all in, regardless which cut they came from?

The examples I spoke about are all single blu-rays with both the theatrical version and an extended or director's cut. In all of those cases, there is no difference in credits between the versions, so I profiled those credits (just once), and used the longest running time. Actually: in most cases it wasn't me, but the users who contributed those profiles in the first place. It never occurred to me to do otherwise - and apparently not to anyone else owning those profiles either. As of yet, I don't believe I've encountered one where there are credit differences: they usually simply include some additional scenes through seamless branching, and that's it.

I did run into credit differences on DVD's with two cuts on them, but as of yet, in those cases, they've always been on separate discs, so then I had a "unique" disc-ID to work with. For example, here's a thread in which I described my 2-disc 'Almost Famous'-set: I have the first disc profiled in the parent profile, and have the second disc (the director's cut) added as a bonus child profile.

we can't really do that here, and so we're stuck profiling the entire contents "in one go".

Why not? Wouldn't it be possible to profile the theatrical cut in a Main Profile by EAN and the director's cut as a Child Profile by Disc ID?

While it is possible, I see no provision for this in the rules.  This is not a 'bonus feature film', it is an alternate cut.  If it were on it's own disc, maybe, but not as it is here.

Fine, but let me ask you the same question I asked T!M then. How do you handle cases where the credits differ between the two cuts? Use dividers or just put them all in, regardless which cut they came from? The rules don't seem to cover this. All they do is tell you to take the longest running time, but that's just one of many DVDP fields.

I would use a divider where I would add the additional cast that is only in one of the cuts.

cheers

I profile the main feature...usually the longest one...and mention that in the notes.  I don't compare one set of credits to the other.

Thanks, Martian. I reckon you merely mention the other cut as a "feature" then? (Just trying to establish how to handle such cases, as I suspect they will become more common with the advent of Blu-ray.)

Correct.  Usually something like "Includes Theatrical Version."
