I feel for you Dragon.  This is the major flaw in using BY to distinguish between people with the same name.  We need a different solution.

Like using the middle name, even if it is not most credited in the CLT?

Normally I would not care but another user brought this up in a contribution that he was doing. I don’t like crediting two separate crew members and their jobs with only one person for both. In this case we have Pam Wise (editor) and a totally different person, Pam Wise (costume supervisor). After doing lots of research I could find no BY for either of them to distinguish them apart. Pam Wise (costume supervisor) is credit as Pam J. Wise (costume supervisor) is credited in Hotel for Dogs. I have Pam Wise (editor) credited in Then She Found Me. I have Pam Wise credited in A Time to Kill, The Pollar Express, The Sixth Sense, Unbreakable, Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause, Hotel for Dogs, Hulk, Cast Away.
I don’t want to link one person for all these films when it is two separate people and two separate roles.

So you are submitting changes to these profiles trying to separate the editor/costume supervisor by using the costume supervisor's least common name form as her common name?  Why.

If it bugs you that much fix it locally rather than mucking up the database for everyone.

Unicus is right a different solution would be good.  What you're doing however is non-standard and non-obvious to future contributors because it doesn't conform to the Rules or anything in the forums.
Bad movie?  You're soaking in it!

That is 'a' solution, but it has the same flaw...what if we can't find that information?  We need a solution that doesn't rely on users combing the internet.
No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever.
There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom.
Against this power, governments and tyrants and armies cannot stand.
The Centauri learned this lesson once.
We will teach it to them again.
Though it take a thousand years, we will be free.

The only way that I can think of that would allow them to be kept separate by the database & not require people to trawl the net would be for the system to assign a unique ID to each entry. Of course the downside of that is that to avoid two identical numbers being generated by different users, it would have to be connected to a central database. So if you're wanting to add a new person, you'd need to have an active connection to the internet.

Edit: Just thought of a way to remove the need for the active connection. If the unique ID contained either all or part of the initial contributors account name then each would be guaranteed to be unique.

I realize this doesn't solve all problems, but at least it reduced the number of problems. For the moment I use it locally only, of course.
