Another problem with PMs is that the screeners won't see them, so if the contribution stays, they can't use what's in the pm to decide to reject it or to keep it. As we all know, not all "no" votes are correct.

From experience i will tell you that there are far more incorrect Yes votes than there are No votes. If i err in casting a no vote I will change it. If i vote No to your Contribution will you likewise change your Contribution to address the no vote, based on what I have seen the answer to that question even from some well-known users is a resounding No you (generic) will NOT. You will look at the vote count, because you (generic) think it is a popularity contest and regardless of the merit of the No vote, you (generic) will ignore and let whatever problem the No vote addresses go through, thus introducing bad data to the system. After all even Ken has said good enough is OK, hasn't he.  That bad data has to be fixed by another user taking his time and effort to correct the problem, that should have been corrected by the initial Contribution correcting the problem he introduced, or by means of other users voting No and rejecting bad data In my book good enough is NOT good enough, if I spot a problem and vote No, my response is simple ...FIX IT. If I have to, it won't be pretty.

Even Tim will tell you, if he is honest, that I monitor my votes all the way through. And once whatever caused me to vote NO has been addressed then I will change my vote. Right, Tim And, of course, you can ALWAYS drop me a PM to tell me you have addressed a problem, in case I accidentally overlook it.

Actually, I have always seen it as a popularity contest - for the DVD!  It's really the only way I've seen to tell which DVDs are more commonly owned and which are rarer.  I always find it really interesting to see which DVDs people have more of - I figure if a contribution gets 20 votes vs. one that gets 3, well, more people own the first one, it's in more collections.  Hence, it's more popular.  And the converse.
If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world.
