Tim:

Whether I agre or not is not relevant. The data for BOTH Ice Age and JP appears ON THE COVER and the data as presented is CORRECT. Any other change is based on personal bias, yours, mine or the new user, and that is not acceptable anywhere but locally.

Ice Age: Widescreen Collection----Correct as it appears on the Cover

JP-Correct for the same reason

I don't go digging for this data anywhere BUT the front cover, some users believe that they should apply it from wherever they find it. That is data which may be acceptable Online but is not acceptable here, back cover or spine data is not aceptable to me, and is NOT used in my local, nor is it submitted by me.

Before this goes any further, let's make sure a problem exists...which I don't think it does.

I downloaded every R1 profile with the titles and editions listed...I assumed R1 because of the American flag...and the only one that is in error is 'The New Guy'.  All the others had the edition in the proper field.

What might be causing the confusion is how the titles are displayed in Profiler.  If you look at the profile, in normal mode, it reads:

Title: The Lost World: Jurassic Park: Collector's Edition Widescreen

However, if you look at it in edit mode, you will find that 'Collector's Edition Widescreen' is entered into the edition field.  If my research is correct, two of the three profiles are, in fact, correct...this would be easier to verify if Mixmaster_Mal had his collection set to 'public' as that would allow us to look at the titles in question.

On a side note, I can see why Skip is so frustrated.  It seems like he did the same research I did, while everyone else simply took the OP's post at face value.  With all due respect to Mixmaster_Mal, that is something we should never do with new users.  I know Skip is an easy target but, in this case, he just might be correct.  Maybe everyone should take those two seconds and make sure he isn't before they jump all over him.

Edited for typos.

And I never challenged that. Look back: all I did was to say that if "Ice Age: The Meltdown: Widescreen Edition" was entirely listed in the title field, that it would be correct to change it to "Ice Age: The Meltdown" in the title field, and "Widescreen Edition" in the edition field. That's all. I never suggested anything else.

As others have pointed out, though, maybe Mixmaster_Mal wasn't looking in the right place, meaning the "Widescreen Edition" may already be in the right place. If that's the case: great. Note that my suggestion to try to contribute these changes would have automatically resulted in him being faced with how the program deals with this - just attempting to "fix" it would've cleared it all up, by showing that the parts are already listed in separate fields - if that is indeed the case. There are, by the way, surprisingly many profiles in the database with obvious editions listed in the title field, desperately in need of the kind of fix Mixmaster_Mal described.

Thanks for the input.  I'll check things when I get home tonight to see if I'm looking at the right fields.

EDIT:  RE: the recent posts about title vs. edition fields and how they're presented...I'll check that when I get home, Thanks! (I'm reading/posting from work right now)

Sounds good, I hope it really is as I suspect.  It would make things a whole lot simpler.

Btw, welcome to the jungle.  It is nice to have new users...especially new ones that seem to care about the profile data AND have read the rules.

LOL, Two years? Try 9, Invelos is TWO years old and I as most movedvbhere when the company changed.

As to your reference to the Rules, unless someone has corrupted the Online, which does happen the data is in the proper edition field.
Ice Age and JP appear to be correct, I know it is here and I see no difference Online

Quite right, but that applies to almost everyone here...at one time or another...not just 'some' users.

Was the "Edition" field just added in a recent update/build of the program, so that older DVD's often had edition info included in the "Title" field?

I didn't see anyone answer this question, so I thought I'd take a shot at it.

The "Edition" field isn't new and has been around for quite a while -- long enough to predate the release of the DVDs you refer to.  So "Widescreen Edition" and "Collector's Edition" should have been in the "Edition" field from the start, not in the title field.

Speaking for myself, I purposely chose not to answer any of the follow up questions until he had a chance to get home and determine whether or not this was simply a misunderstanding.  In hindsight, it probably wasn't the best choice.  Thanks for picking up the slack.

The title and edition fields used to be shorter than they are now so people would sometimes put the text wherever it would fit. You are right in correcting it now.
