I am sure that we will start seeing re-releases with digital copies if they haven't already arrived. Already happening at Best Buy, a bunch of older Sony/Fox discs like Underworld, Underworld 2, i, Robot (the only ones I can recall right off) are there in slim cases with a huge digital copy banner. They are also missing all the extras from the original releases.  I have yet to find one use for a digital copy. Since they don't work on Zune anyway, I'm still ripping my dvds for travel, although The Dark Knight has some menu structure that makes every program I've tried fail to open it, so I'm double out of being able to watch that on the road without bringing the dvd.  So far it's the only un-rippable disc I've seen, and I'm sure an update will release it soon.  |

I'd suppose that legally one has the right to copy a DVD any way one wants as long as it's for the DVD owner's use.
Concerning the Best Buy Digital Copies, are these regular DVD + Digital Copy or just the latter? |

The cases felt too light to have 2 discs in them. At least they were semi-cheap ($9.99), but then again, most of the standard discs are also in that price range, and most standards are loaded special editions. Unless the cases just don't mention the features, but it looks like they've been removed to make room for the dc. I'll never buy one so I'll never know for sure. What kills me is that I see Microsoft logos on the cases, like they are behind the DC tech, yet they play on the competitor's device (Apple iPod), but not the same company's (Microsoft Zune).  Makes as much sense as the stock market. Now that I think about it, I'm pretty sure I saw some at Wal-Mart as well. ...and a quick search of dvdempire shows them. I did try loading the first one I got, until it started asking for things it shouldn't (like name and email). Oh yeah, a quick search found a dvdfab update will solve the Dark Knight issue too. Haven't tried it yet since a friend has my disc and I'm pretty much snowed in, but lots of posts from different people said it worked. |

For i, Robot, The Day After Tomorrow and X-Men 2 the DC versions were still in slim cases, but had a sticker on the front saying "2 disc set, includes digital copy". The first disc was the same as the normal versions, with the commentary tracks on X2, Day After and whatever the first release of i, Robot had (just a comm. I think).
A little better, but still pretty worthless. Not only are they in slim cases, I think the cases are cardboard like the late Total Movie & Entertainment dvds came in. The sure looked/felt like cardboard. |

Yes I understand going green and smaller crabon footprint, but I still prefer my plastic keep cases. |
