Don't count on it. I had XP running fine for years, until Microsoft unleashed SP3 on me. That system never recovered completely.

I am now running Vista+SP1 on a laptop, without any particular problems, other than some manufacturers choosing not to support their hardware (scanner).

Same here, no problems at all with 3.1.1 and 3.5.0beta (Core2-Quad, 4GB, Vista Ultimate 32bit SP1,
