Any idea's why? what's it do if you try to scan it into a text editor like notepad? Some info on what exactly your experiencing would help. Is your CueCat declawed? as long as the scanner simulates keyboard input and includes the leading digit and the trailing digit (checksum) it should work. -Agrare |

It looks a little larger than a cell phone or TV remote control -- has about 500KB memory and connects to the PC via USB port. I first saw them on the Colectorz web site (Collectorz markets them configured for their software, but they should work with other s/w, too.)
Collectorz currently sells the Opticon OPN-2001 for $139.95 USD so it's not cheap. It looks like it would sure be handy since you don't have to be close to your PC to use it. And it's a laser-beam scanner.

-Agrare To sum it up, nothing  . I hooked it to my computer and tried scanning the bar code an nothing happens. I read some of the post about CatNip and I downloaded and ran it. Again nothing. So, I opened up Notepad, made sure CatNip was running and was configured to the proper settings, and tried scanning the bar code again. Nothing shows up in notepad. I am not sure if I am missing a step and the only thing I can think of that "might" be helpful is that I plug CueCat into the keyboard PS2 port, but I do not use a PS2 keyboard. I use a USB wireless keyboard and mouse. Sorry if this info is not helpful.  |

That might be the problem. I dimly remember that this problem came up before. Problem: the PS/2-version only works if there really is a PS/2-keyboard present, something to do with the way the CueCat is wired into the presumed 1:1 connection between keyboard and pc. A PS2 model requires that it be inline with a keyboard for the clock & strobe signals, though a few have reported it functioning without. Since you have a PS2 port on your system, an adapter in a CueCat(PS2>USB)Keyboard arrangement should be tried - a decent chance your USB keyboard transmitter may still work fine. Possibly also worth a try is a (USB>PS2)CueCat(PS2>USB)Keyboard stack of adapters... if you have them available, though I think that working is a bit of a stretch. Next option: cheap PS2 keyboards are readily available, just plug it in with the CueCat and hide it somewhere. Most modern systems shouldn't have a problem with several keyboard devices being attached at the same time, no need to displace your USB wireless even temporarily. cya, Mithi Yes that is indeed the problem. (I used to write Point of Sale software so have some experience in this area). I think I mentioned this (not specifically to the CueCat) in one of the other barcode scanner threads here at some point. What you have is generally referred to as a keyboard wedge. (it 'wedges' between the keyboard and computer). If a keyboard is not plugged in to the other end then you get nothing. Like Mithi said, you either need to just plug a keyboard in that your not using or get an adapter. However I don't think that adapter will work as I believe that one turns a ps/2 into a usb, you want the other way around, like thisor #'s 10, 12, 13, 14 on this page (13 is actually the one in the above link). -Agrare |

Not purposly. I still gave you a greenie for your post. maybe it was the scanner, but I tried this out back at my old job and it still didn't work unless there was a keyboard plugged into the other side of the wedge. perhaps it works with the CueCat, i was using an older (though more expensive) scanner. -Agrare |
