OK - first of all - thanks a lot for all your replies!    (and especially thanks to Reybr for his extensive explanation in the PM).

The reason for my original post is my audit of 'Black Sheep' (UPC: 796019805704). It's already in the DB with the CC ticked, but when looking at the cover, and the DVD Menu there is nothing to indicate it is in fact Closed Captioned (hence my original post). There are subtitles for the hearing impared, but if I understand you guys correctly, this does not qualify as 'CC'....

Again - thanks alot for your efforts...

I have noticed on several of my NTSC covers the CC being shown on the bottom of the spine

The DVD menus will never list CC. It is not a feature that is decoded by your DVD player, it is passed in the video stream and then decoded by your TV. (Yes I know that most software DVD players can decode and display CC; PowerDVD, Nero ShowTime, WinDVD, etc.).

Sometimes a disc's set-up menus actually does list closed captioning though, but they'll say something like "your TV must support them". Of course you can't actually initiate them from the DVD menu. I've seen this quite a few times on Roger Corman's old New Concorde DVD's.
