There's an old movie named 'The Wizard of Speed and Time' which has some great stop-motion animation in it.

It is actually part of the story-line, and you get to see the film-maker setting up and shooting the frames, and then the final product later in the movie.

Definitely one to look for ... in fact it's the only Video I still have after dumping the rest of them a few years ago

Cheers

I also just remembered Equinox (1970) released on DVD by Criterion, which had some early stop-motion effects by Dave Allen. He went on to do various stop-motion over the years including various Full Moon films, and also some big budget films before his untimely death in 1999.

You really should check out the works of Ivo Caprino (Norwegian filmmaker) and especially Flåklypa Grand Prix mentioned by lmoelleb.

Caprinos complete works is available on Region Free DVD's with English Menu, Subtitles and Audio. Check out http://www.caprino.no/nb/ for details.

Thanks for all the input people, keep it coming!

I actually have heard of The Wizard of Speed and Time as it's had a few mentions on the radio station I listen to.  Those Caprino films look good, though I'm a little put off by the non-OAR on them.

Don't worry people, I am checking out the suggestions, as I am sure many others are too.

I can remember a movie made, I think/remember with real people, and is about dinosaurs.
Evenrually they are moving those dinosaurs to special (game) reserve so to say. The dinosaurs were done stop motion too? Just cannot remember the title... I'll see if I can find anything.

//Edit

And don't forget `James and the Giant Peach`

Does anyone else here have an interest in stop-motion animation?

I'm curious to find more stop-motion "out there".  Anyone know any cool stuff, either entirely in SM, or that has strong elements of it in it?  What can people recommend?

I ordered Mio and Mao for my gf (SM fan and lover of cats), which unfortunately hasn't arrived yet (her birthday's today).  In that order I also grabbed myself Quaqquao which I really dig.

SM stuff I have on DVD:
Corpse Bride
The Nightmare Before Christmas
Robbie the Reindeer: Hooves of Fire / Legend of the Lost Tribe
Wallace & Gromit: Curse of the Were-Rabbit (though I'm thinking of disposing of this one).

Gogs: The Complete Collection
Robot Chicken: Season 1
The Trap Door: Complete Collection

I also have Lavender Castle on order from the UK (in addition to the three volumes of Quaqquao I alluded to earlier.

Although this thread has really grown beyond "me", I'll say I actually find Chicken Run highly overrated and near-unwatchable.  Curse of the Were-Rabbit I find watchable, but have probably seen too often (my gf has younger siblings).  I might otherwise hang on to my copy except that the gf has a copy too (and I'm in no hurry to rewatch it).

Sorry to shock/offend those who love these movies/Aardman in general, but that's life.  Technically they are still awesome, just not my cup of tea.

I totally agree with you on Chicken Run. Was extremely dissapointed as I had high expectations due to Wallace & Gromit (which I needless to say dig)....

You found Walace & Grommit and the Case of the Were-Rabbit better than Chicken Run?
That amazes me... I had very high expectations on W&G:CotWR because of Chicken Run, but I found Walace & Grommit a real let down, the shorts were soooo much better.

I was actually referring to the early W&G - not the Were-rabbit..

One of the best moments of my life was when I got to interview Ray Harryhausen in connection with the Warner King Kong release:

I have all his movies on DVD, I'm pleased to say, plus his autobiography.  Equinox is an underappreciated classic too.

Very interesting, thanks for sharing.
I hadn't known about this web site so I read a few articles. I'm curious about; "Expelled from Sunday School 1968 for telling filthy nun and priest jokes".
