| Posted: | | | | Have you looked at DJ Doena tool Find Name Duplicates? What does the tool you envision need to do beyond that? Maybe something can be built on top of that one. | | | Thanks for your support. Free Plugins available here. Advanced plugins available here. Hey, new product!!! BDPFrog. |

Well, I wanted to try... but I can't! I would need to export my (whole) collection to xml and export doesn't work anymore. It runs and runs... and at about 99 % the Error-Popup comes... I got an xml but with Zero KB size. So in this case I got no chance to try it.
Is there any chance that the tool opens the "Actors"-File in the programm folder (no idea if the DAT or the IDX is relevant) but this would avoid (the for me impossible) export Maybe consider the possibility of testing the idea with less than the full export? DVD Profiler can be a bit unstable. So if I had that problem, I wouldn't want to mess up my database further by trying to add stuff via the API. But that's just me. At least not without first finding a way to fix that export problem. I assume that you have tried a database repair? I realize it's really slow with a database of that size, but it should be done. | | | My freeware tools for DVD Profiler users. Gunnar |

| Posted: | | | | @mediadogg: Sorry, I was a little bit too busy to go deep in all posts (trying to export an xml lasted a long time) and as it didn't work I forgot to answer you.
Export works neither with the full database nor with only a few. I had this problem in the past, and there was no solution to solve this.
So I need to find another way....
Well, the idea of the "fake profile" you mentioned is wonderful for two reasons: All the cast & crew with no BY could be added there, and if I keep the fake profile (I think about the wishlist), with the "repair database" I can remove all other cast & crew not used anymore (emptied by common name, correcting misspelling etc.)
I know the duplicates file... well, in theory this could be a good basic to handle this problem. So far it shows similar entries, but at least in theory (don't know the programming and processes working behind) it could be used just to find actors with birthyear.
I also don't know if it helps to "interact" with the program that way: I used the right click to filter actors to show only "names with birthyear".
Maybe (oh, if I would know how to program) the tool could work that way: - I create the fake profile and start the tool - The tool doesn't even need to check, if there is an version with no BY of any entry with BY (- The tool uses the filter of "with birthyear only") - For ever cast & crew with birthyear, the tool does like mentioned with the pictures before: "create new entry". If already available, the tool cancels the actual add and goes to the next name with BY
Is this an idea? |

| Posted: | | | | Oh yes, nothing hard to do there.
Let me confirm:
You say you would like to get a fake profile with all cast and crew with no BY. This is easy to create. You don't need to do anything but click "Go". I can create the fake profile, by using the next available manual profile ID in your database.
Next, all I need to do is add every cast and crew to the fake profile by first setting entry BY (to "0" or null?) and add to the fake profile if not already there. If I use your filter idea, you will be missing some cast and crew - the entries that originally have no BY.
So, which do you want: the fake profile with all cast and crew and no BY set, or only the ones which originally had BY set?
Either way will have the same cast and crew entries in the database, it just affects which cast and crew get assigned to the fake profile.
And last question is how do you want to handle "credited as"? Do you want a checkbox, or always handle it the same way?
Sorry one more question: do you want me to access the set of accepted BY and fix any that are incorrect while scanning? | | | Thanks for your support. Free Plugins available here. Advanced plugins available here. Hey, new product!!! BDPFrog. | | | Last edited: by mediadogg |

| Posted: | | | | If you think we are converging on an idea, I will be using a "SubPlugin". This is a piece of code that is very easy to install and update, and much easer for me to code, test and maintain than a regular plugin.
But there is a catch. All subplugins are hosted by a master plugin called DVDPFauxAPI. This is installed only once and never again unless a bug fix is needed. From then on, you can run any and all subplugins simply by copying one file into a specific folder.
So, before I start writing code, please verify that you can install DVDPFauxAPI plugin. It does nothing until you copy a subplugin file, which is automatically recognized and run. Easy. You can disable it and re-enable it the normal way, using Tools>View Plugins.
Let me know if I am on the right track. | | | Thanks for your support. Free Plugins available here. Advanced plugins available here. Hey, new product!!! BDPFrog. | | | Last edited: by mediadogg |

| Posted: | | | | Oh I see now, I don't think my BY checking males sense. I would only be able to delete the cast or crew entry if the BY was not found in the accepted list. And to do that, I would first have to remove the entry from every profile that used it. Way too much work and risk I think. Profiler does not allow removing a cast or crew entry that is being used, or the program would crash. | | | Thanks for your support. Free Plugins available here. Advanced plugins available here. I'd like to say: I tried everything! Database repair I do at least once a month. I backuped the whole database and created a new one from the backup. But even the new one was not able to export. I tried it with packs of 1000, but no matter, which 1000 I want to export, always at 99 % the error-pop-up tells me a astory... so I gave up |

| Posted: | | | | Did you try to export 1 profile? Maybe played with the options of what to export (leave out cast and/or crew for test)? Chose a different drive for the file?
I may not have the largest collection but it's not small either, so for reference: My ~7400 profiles export to a 163 MiB file in 2 minutes 50 seconds. | | | Karsten DVD Collectors Online

| Posted: | | | | I tried the version to export "1 file per profile".... but as this didn't last too long I stopped after about an hour (not even 1000 files/profiles then of more than 25.000) |

Does the export complete there? | | | Karsten DVD Collectors Online

| Posted: | | | | Quoting Magmadrag: Quote: more than 25,000 For testing purposes: Could you sort your collection by alphabet, go to the first F movie, mark all the profiles above, then backup those profiles, create a new database and restore the backup there? Law of average that should give us about 5,000 profiles (yes, I know that not every letter is equally represented in the movie title world). Does the export work with this smaller database? The problem is that DVD Profiler is stuck in Windows XP 32-bit world with the known "foreign letters" ANSI technology on top. At some point you will just reach the natural limits of what this program is capable of. | | | Karsten DVD Collectors Online

| Posted: | | | | The "F-Database" worked.... as I don't know if the backup then exports all cast & crew or only of the flagged F-Profiles, I can't say if the "BySpecial" of GSyren (thanks, at least I could try now) shows all actors missing the version w/o BY or only the 469 of the F-Profiles....
But even if they are all (so far) it would be hard to create each one manually.... that was the reason for my idea for a tool to do that job. |

| Posted: | | | | And since I am working on the tool, it would be interesting to focus on my comments and questions. However if the xml export works for you, then my tool is not needed. Let me know as soon as possible.
Oh by the way, I see DJ is on the scene. I am happy to defer if you would like to write the tool. Maybe a nice addition to the Find Name Duplicates tool? | | | Thanks for your support. | Posted: | | | | Quoting mediadogg: Quote: However if the xml export works for you, then my tool is not needed. What GSyren created is "only" a listing. I hope I answered all your questions in one of my last postings? And: I'd still prefer a tool which CREATES all the missing cast & crew w/o a birthyear for me (in the fake profile you mentioned before). So far it is "only" 469 entries to create... and doing that manually is hell of a job. And if I think about that I am not done with the letter "C" of the birthyear-list and as I am actually only doing cast so far, there might be several thousands without a BY and that's simply too much to do manually. So, dear mediadogg, the tool will be highly appreciated if it could do the job I would like it to and this way avoid countless hours of manual work. |
