So what you're saying is that you expect people who have made no alterations to the data as entered to document this data, but that when you have made alterations to the data, you need to provide none.

Exactly what I've been trying to say. Thanks

If the program intelligently parsed names there might be something to using the default parsing it provided as a baseline.  The parsing it provides is arbitrary but i couldn't call it intelligent.
Bad movie?  You're soaking in it!

I don't believe that is possible, tweeter. Inttelligent parsing assumes some level of user intelligence. As I noted theose in the UK and France and elsewhere are not interested in any kind of cooperative effort. All I keep hearing is a universal whine "I waaaant it  this wayyyyyy! Good grief...beam me up Scotty, there isn't any here.

I'm really sorry, but such a sweeping statement comes across as both arrogant and highly insulting. Would you care to provide evidence (if not documentation) for these alleged characteristics of entire nations?

UK, France and elsewhere? Doesn't that mean the whole world?

Your idea would be fine, north, IF the Regions were totally isolated from each other, which they aren't. THEN ecah Region could do whatever worked for their user base. But were that the case, I as Region 1 user would probably telling some other Regions to stay out of our data, you are Region whatever, muck up your own stay out of this one.

What has it got to do with regions? I thought we were talking about DATA here, pure and simple. If we're talking about DATA what difference does it make how the program parses it?
I've suggested a truly culturally-neutral way of dealing with names - type it in, press ok - no parsing, no deciding what goes in which field, let the program do it all - and now you're suddenly against the idea? What happened to looking at the DATA and the DATA only? Moving parts of a name into another field means you are AMENDING the data to suit your preferences, which requires documentation - or have you suddenly decided that you can make changes without documenting them as well now?

Nuetral maybe, but at this point doesn't fit with the programming constraints.  And for what ever reason (I am sure that Ken does have his reasons) doesn't want to  eliminate the last name field.  So we are going to have to use it the way it is programmed.  If the programmed is changed, I will start entering data the way the program requires.

At this point, I think that a simple change needs to be made.  The way the program ghandles name entry for a new actor.  If you type in three names, it needs to divide it into three fields and allow the user to adjust it from there.

I actually would actually be open to the idea of 2 name fields, but as far as a single entry, I don't think I would care for that.
