Quote: Sorry, Surfeur, but I think that post of yours was just an example of the messages we should rate negatively. Nothing personal.
I saw Skip's post as a perfect example of a post that should get a negative rating. It offered nothing constructive and seemed to be a veiled attempt to simply 'stir the pot'. I did, however, resist the urge. I would say that in this case you are wrong. While it is sad that Skip has little faith in the good of the user base, he said nothing in his post that should get him a bad mark. For this system to work we need to save the bad votes to stop name calling and other forms of bullying. Good votes on the other hand should be handed out to anyone (even Skip ) that posts something that helps the user base. pdf | | | Paul Francis San Juan Capistrano, CA, USA |

No I have no intention of discussing specifics as I do not believe it is appropriate to do so. Constructive criticism requires that you add something constructive to your criticism. You did not do that. All you did was criticize. Quote: Based on what I have seen, I will only say that I am far more tolerant of people than they are of others, this also does not surprise me as it mirrors what I have seen in my world of politics. People will generally speak very highly while failing to see that the very comments they utter are intolerant in and of themsleves. Human nature, I suppose. The point you keep missing is that people see you the same way you see them. At the very least, this system will force everybody to pay closer attention to how they speak to other people. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. | Posted: | | | | Uniocus and Paul: I am open-minded and hopeful...but skeptical. Years of experience with this Community has colored my views...sadly. There have been many ocassions where i have been critical AND offrered solutions and still been beaten down for it. From my POV, the Community has far more to prove than I do. And I know what your response is, Unicus. For me to attempt to counter what I know you will say, would require me to get very personal (not necessarily at you) and that is always something I choose NOT to do. Which also goes to many of my comments and your replies, the answers, were I to deal with them are IMNHO wholly inappropriate, I therefore choose to bear my cross alone, as always Skip | | | ASSUME NOTHING!!!!!! For this system to work we need to save the bad votes to stop name calling and other forms of bullying. I agree with you. While I felt it should have gotten a negative vote, I did not give it one. I am sure, however, that somebody did. This is a subjective system and that is a decision each person is going to have to make on their own. Skip I have no doubt that there are people here with an axe to grind. To believe otherwise would be foolish. I am also sure that Ken is aware of this fact and will take it into account when reviewing the ratings. He says abuse will be dealt with and I have no reason to doubt him. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. | Posted: | | | | Yes I think now we must let the system setting up by Ken and improve by the time in function of the behaviour of users and I hope we will find again a good atmosphere to discuss between us. With this previous "war" between some users, I have stopped to discuss and only answer to technical post where in generally we didn't have this type of incidence. | | | Regards Cyrille |

We'll let it run over the weekend then on Monday morning we will enable the account restriction ability.
During and/or at the end of the test run, the scores may be reset. So are we good to go? Any other changes? (at least any you are willing to tell us about ) Just what are the chances of getting a list of posts you have voted for, at least the negative ones? Is this something that would be too difficult to implement? Even if it stays as is thanks again for this tool. IMO it has already changed the tone of the forums in a positive way. |

| Posted: | | | | Personally I think this reputation system is much better than the user blocking system, because that certainly did not improve the attitude of users. As matter of fact I think the blocking system is not needed anymore, because you are not able to rate the ones you block and make them behave. | | | Martin Zuidervliet

| Posted: | | | | Maybe this is a little bit heretical, but IMHO this reputation system would not be necessary if the forums would be moderated by an administrator who immediate corrects nasty postings. This is a waste of valuable programming time. This is a battle against the symptoms but not the causes. Many other forums out there work like this without any problems. Just my 2 cents... | | | Thorsten | | | Last edited: by kahless |
