To my French (and other nationalities that skip attacks on a fairly recent basis) friends, I'd like to point out that not all Americans are ignorant dicks. Please don't let the redneck with the loudest voice form your opinion of how the rest of us feel. We all aren't Jerry Spring Show guests, and I find that the people who have skip's opinion have never left their home town of Mayberry, instead getting all their information from the talking box.

I have been to France, I love both the people and the country. And the food rocks, too.

But sadly, the bigots in our country have louder mouths than the rest, so it's their voice you hear most often.

I'll thank you to keep you ill-informed and insulting remarks to yoursel. You know nothing about me or where I have been in my life, quite likely far better travelled than yourself, sir.

The only nationality i tease is the french, simply because they are the targett of one of my favorite historical jokes.

Don't think of the jean Paul Belmondos of the world or the Truffauts, think instead from the vbottom, of those people who are unknown or relatively unknown, those that there is literally not going to be any supporting documentation to support your cloim, yet you are going to presume with no knowledge to assume that YOU possess the knowledge to figure out a REAL name, that si almost too funny for words, We have the correct answer and Ken has stated it. I am amzed at how many users we have that posses either a doctorate in Nameology or superhiman skill that don't exist, maybe a divining rod would help.

The thing is, for those names that I have adapted in the online, I can and haveprovided valid documentation. I've done so in the past and in those cases, I will either use the 'credited as' feature (per the rules I'm allowed to do so) or I will simply correct the name if it is a result from a erronous romanization.

Still, I see you haven't answer my question regarding cases where it's all caps. How do you enter the 'hard data' without:
- interpreting the data?
- using external sources?

How do you enter a name like VAN DAMME? Can you say that you are able to enter such names without any outside help, source or interpretation???

DVDP will convert the all caps to lowercase, but how do you know it should be Van Damme or van Damme?

I'm not asking this to attack you in any way but it's a legitimate issue we are confronted to from time to time and for the time being, I honestly don't know how I can input such cases correctly, without falling back on external data or user interpretation.

Also, please stop belittling other cultures and languages. Last I checked this software was made available to international customers and we have just as much right as you do to ask:
- clarification on the rules when needed
- for feature requests that would help resolve issues we have now (like unicode support, etc)

Then stop insulting me.

Well keep your teasing to yourself then. It doesn't belong here! Whether you feel it was just a joke or not, it is highly offensive in my opinion.

People don't need to know you one bit to see how offensive you can be...

I doubt it. Not only do I doubt it for the obvious reasons, but also from you ignorant remarks on not just the French, but other cultures and countries. If you have indeed visited some of these places you slam, you would not make some of the statements you make.

But then again, you could just be a bigot through and through, and you don't leave your small town mind at home when you visit the big world.

There's a difference between teasing and acting like an ignorant jerk. You happen to do the latter.

What I continue is whiners in these threads all too sadkly. I get no recognition for the fact that i support a compromise which i would hope would make you happy and all i continue to see is "Nooooooooooo, we don't want a compromise, we want it OUR wat, we want another IMDb mess." Give me a break.

I really do hope that one day Ken will allow for "correct" names to be used with the CLT. Even though I am afraid that documentation will go by the boards in favor of "It is because I am French and that's how we do it" or German, Greek or whatever. I find it very sad since my heritage is French, German and Welsh that some of the most vocal are insulting my own heritage.

Skip, you're being unreasonable now. You want people to take you seriously and I do. Not once did I call you names or insulted you in this thread. All I did was asking you to provide me with answers how to deal with all caps names, without resorting to external data or user-interpretation.

Instead of discussing this rationally, you keep avoiding the question and now ask me to stop insulting you even though I didn't?    Where in this thread did I attack you in any way?

Short version of this thread:
You say: "Guys, only input the data exactly as it is on-screen without changing or user-interpretation"
I say: "Agreed. However, in some cases, DVDP doesn't allow me to do so. How should I treat those cases then without resorting to user-interpretation or outside sources?"
You say: "stop insulting me"
I say: "huh?"

Precisely, dag, but the online is not meant to service YOU, it is meant to service ALL, and to that extent no one will ever be happy, because somebody like you wants the Online to serve THEIR needs and nothing else matters.

And how exactly do we differ here?

Yes, I want DVDP, including the online db, to serve my needs, just like you want it to serve yours. And we both post in this forum to influence how the product develops. I don't see any problem with that.

What I hope is that I've expressed my arguments clearly enough for Ken to have a slightly fuller understanding of the pros and cons when he decides what direction he wants to take Profiler. And I will of course respect any decision Ken makes just as I respect the current set of rules and instructions.

If you don't know the answer to that question, Taro, themn i can't help you.  FYI informatin Van Damme would be correct, it is NOT his correct name based on culture but it is correct based ion our handling of the credits.

It's time to end this, YOU (generic) don't want to listen and don't want to deal wuith the data, you want to be able to interpret the data to whatever particular culture is suited and that resuklts in completely INCONSISTENT data.

My compromise stands and i hope will be implemented someday, then all this will go away...probably not.

Oh give it a rest already, Vincent Victim. You are the only person on this board who can't compromise. The two times (at least since I've been lurking) you have stopped posting in a huff were awesome because threads were started, questions were answered and conversation was had without some jackass coming in and ruining it for everyone (you are the jackass I'm referring to, so we are clear).

But, not being a man of your word, you come back and ruin the fun for everyone. But that's what people who don't keep their word do, suck the good times away.

Here is the difference Dag. I don't expect the Onlibne to serve my needs. I understand its purpose and know that is impossible, I expect my LOCAL to serve my needs and it does.
