As you will all have noticed, there was no November update. I was busy processing a Headshot database provided by T!M. Unfortunately, it wasn't created using the procedure in this topic, so it was a full database.

Welcome to my world.  I'm currently doing the same thing with a headshot db for the v5 database.

Many thanks for your efforts; they're greatly appreciated!

A note on the December update....I think the "Groucho Marx" picture is actually an impersonator, and not the real Groucho.

Some suggestions for people contributing:

1) These are HEADshots.  It's best not to cut off the tops of their heads, or their ears.  A picture of just eyes, nose and mouth is pretty unattractive.
2) Along the same lines, try to avoid pictures where they're covering their faces with their hands, hats, sunglasses, martini glasses, etc.
3) Artsy-fartsy shots where most of the face is in shadow really don't help much.
4) I think out of costume shots are probably preferable to shots in costume, since special makeup can make the actor look very different.
5) Shots where the actor is making a goofy face are probably not worthwhile either, though they can offer a chuckle as you slog through the comparisons.

As you will all have noticed, there was no November update. I was busy processing a Headshot database provided by T!M. Unfortunately, it wasn't created using the procedure in this topic, so it was a full database. I had to run DVDP on 2 PC's, manually comparing thousands of headshots. And that's what I've been doing the past 2 months  .

The result is a December update with 315 crew members and 2934 actors. You can download it here.

And to all of you, and your families, a merry christmas and a happy new year.

And a big thank you to T!M for providing the images!!!!

You're welcome - I'm glad to see that it was useful after all. Rest assured: I now have a manual headshots profile where I store any cast and crew members that I add a new or better headshot to. So it should be a lot easier to process next time...

Since version 3.5 you can use jpg files for cast or crew headshots.

1. The root directory for images is specified in the Options dialog (Menu: Tools/Options...).
Select the 'File Folders' tab. The 'Credit Photos' entry contains the directory name.

2. The image filename has to be build with the cast or crew name in the database with the following syntax:
[Last Name]_[First Name]_[Middle Name][_Birth year].jpg
or
[Last Name]_[First Name]_[Middle Name][_Birth year].jpeg

Examples:
- Carole Ann Ford:  Ford_Carole_Ann.jpg
- Sophie Aldred:    Aldred_Sophie_.jpg
- Aaliyah:    _Aaliyah_.jpg
- Kevin Smith (1970):    Smith_Kevin__1970.jpg. If this file is not available DVD Profiler looks for Smith_Kevin_.jpg.

An image in the 'Credit Photos' directory will be the default headshot for that person.
The image size is unimportant but the aspect ratio should be about 3 (width) x 4 (height) since the display of the image is scaled to this ratio.

3. Profile specific headshots are stored in subdirectories of the 'Credit Photos' directory.
The subdirectory name syntax:
[UPC][.CountryID]
or
I[DiscID][.CountryID] if the profile is specified by the disc identifier.

US profiles does not have a country identifier.
You can use DVD Profiler to create the directory in the 'Cast Information' or 'Crew Information' dialogs.
Select a profile, click the cast/crew image, copy the image into the clipbord with 'Copy' and select 'Paste Custom'. This will create the directory and the jpg file and is also a way to export headshots stored in the database.

Great work you all!

Is there any possibility to extract those pictures into jpeg-files to be used in the online collection of phpDVDprofiler?

I would love to have these great pictures within my online list, too...

No this is not possible. But you can download the "Cinematic Collection Viewer" plugin made by Tom Gaines. It has all kinds of extra info for DVD Profiler. One of them is a collection of nearly 12000 headshots which are downloaded as JPEG's.

The januari update is available here.

This update also includes contributions by T!M and deadman36g, for which many thanks

The previous updates of 2008 are now grouped in a subfolder.

Is this what you had in mind ?

Here are some alternative instructions to create a small and quick to process Headshot database.

Add a manual profile to your database
Add by title - deselect "Download profile from Invelos".
  Call the profile Headshots

When you update a headshot, add it to the Headshots profile (for crew, just use director for every member, don't loose your time by selecting the correct role).

When you are done. Make a full backup of your database.

Create a new database, called HMDB.

Open de new database, and perform a restore with the folowing options:
Select "Restore Specific Profiles" and select only the Headshots profile.
  Deselect "Replace Full User Database"

Perform a database repair with the following options:
  Select "Custom"
  Deselect "Preserve cast/crew with images"

This will remove all castmembers except those attached to the Headshots profile.

Now perform a database backup and select only "Include cast/crew databases, with photos".

This results in a very small update that is quick to process.

I have just downloaded the January update, and I just wanna say thanks to everyone who contributed for all their hard work.

I have added a few of my own headshots to my local db and I was wondering whether there was an easy way for me to contribute these for future updates?

I just stumbled upon a great fan photo site, not sure if anyone else has contributed it before. Lots of great pics.
