11 pages about using a colon or a hyphen

It is christmas time now, have a happy holidays and simmer down 

Back to topic.

Months ago I was changing hyphens to colums for some german titles, I received a lot of NO votes and was told the colons are only for Music and Tv Episodes and that a hyphen must be used for movies.

From that day on I did it that way, tho I see both stuff contributed.

I thinkw e should agree on one of the two and then put it exactly in the rules.

I really do not care what we use, a colon or a hyphen, but we should all use only one of them.

Personally, I see no problem to treat in a different manner things that have nothing in common. There are so many other things about titles that make them different from a locality to another (typography rules in particular) that there is no reason to try to impose consistency that anyway doesn't exist.

As in your example it's an episode descriptor this is clearly ruled to use colon.

The original question of this poll/thread was how to seperate "Original Title + German Subtitle". And if we want to not just take it local for German releases this would mean "Original title + local Subtitle".

Where the heck did the "+" come from? I thought this was about colons or hyphens?

Since there is neither a colon nor a hyphen on the cover I would request a subtitle field.

I voted for the hyphen. Not because I want to start changing all my R1 titles that happen to have subtitles but because of this type of scenario that I quoted and what this thread is about (well...25% of it anyway  ). I think adding this to the rules wouldn't harm anyone and would only support what other countries have been doing for their titles for over 10 years now. No sense changing it now. And adding it to the rules would hopefully keep everyone on the same page.
