I don't think that it is me being more forgiving... more like that we are two different types of people. Whenever I read something I never (no matter what it is I read) take it for any more then what it actually says. I completely refuse to read anything more into it.

I read that post and think he will be here. And that is all I think.

Other people read that and think he will be here... and he will do this, and this, and this...  Which to me is no more then asking to be disappointed.

To me it shows he doesn't care about helping his userbase. Nothing more, nothing less.

Actually let me rephrase that. He doesn't care about the users who want to submit to the database.

Hey can I get into this too?...

I disagree with you both. I have seen times when he was very helpful and fairly quick at it... and I have seen times where I wanna pull my hair out wishing he would come in and clarify matters.

I see he is like this when it comes to product development on HIS side and agree he seems very quick with this as witnessed recently in the beta part of the forums for the new release. However I would just like to see the same sort of thing on the side where the USERS are helping to develop the product.

As I have said a few times, there are many many great people here who are very helpful and if I'm honest, the ones who seem to get wound up easily (kincluding myself) are just frustrated that there doesn't seem to be 5-10 minutes free each day to quickly chime in with an official answer to clear up rules in the forums.

So not constantly chaging/updating the rules to you shows he doesn't care?  What if he changes a rule you don't like, then what?

All I can say in the past he has mentioned he didn't want a complete rules rewrite only to modify existing rules either because of a program change or if there was an issue that needed to be addressed.  I don't think his position is going to change because of this thread.  Which you stated it doesn't hurt to try.  But, you can't get upset if he choses not to post in this thread or make any rule changes because of this thread.

Maybe it would be helpful to address which contribution rules you think prevent/discourage user contributions.  Stating the rules need to be updated kinda open ended.

I can't speak for Sam, but I think his response is more addressing the discussion of Ken's quote of:

First and foremost, you can expect a persistent, ongoing presence in these forums.

Not so much the rules (in this particular case).

And I will agree with Sam. When you have a 12 page thread with 185 responses and 600+ views, but no response from the powers that be, yeah, it does look like he doesn't care about helping his userbase.

I think it would be fair to say that this statement is at a minimum mis-leading.

I think it does set an expectation that has never been realized.

Then I submit how Ken wants it and keep what I don't like local... just like I do now (example, I remove possessives).

The main purpose of the thread was that the rules are not being updated on the rare occasion that Ken DOES make a ruling. Is it really to much to ask that the rules are updated at the same time to reflect these rulings rather than having to get no votes, linked to the thread and resubmit. Or even worse, people that are voting don't know about these posts and we end up with incorrect data through no fault of the contributor or the voters?

I'm not saying rules have to be changed, I'm saying that when there are posts where people are arguing over their interpretations of the rules, Ken should have the decency to step in quickly, give his ruling to prevent inconsistency in the online database and copy and paste any relevant rewording to the rules.

It doesn't say that Ken would have a persistent, ongoing presence in the forums.
