Hey, if you guys are going to completely ignore this thread, can you at least remove this statement from this FAQ thread:

Quoting Ken Cole:
Quote:
Q:What can we expect out of Invelos Software?
First and foremost, you can expect a persistent, ongoing presence in these forums.

It creates a level of expectation from your forum visitors that really isn't fair as it's not very factual.

I guess it depends on how you define "presence" just because Ken doesn't address this thread directly, doesn't mean he isn't aware of it.

This is very true. Taking it literally with what it says he will be present. And checking his online profile shows he was last here just about an hour ago. So he is literally doing what he said.

I don't believe he ever said he would consistently post in the forums. As long as he logs onto the forum often he  is keeping to that statement.

And even if you want to go by posts... checking his posts he posted here twice yesterday... 14 times in December so far. So I think he is doing what he said even if you want to consider posts only.

I would personally love to see him chime in on all the important issues also... but I can't honestly say he isn't going by what he said in that quote.

I'd say that since it's over half a year ago that Gerri asked for suggestions for a rules update in the Contribution Rules Committee here, expecting such an update to materialize at SOME point in time is not that far-fetched or out of this world.

And yes, I agree that any ruling by Ken or Gerri in the forums should be incorporated into the rules themselves ASAP, since only a VERY small percentage of Invelos users (allegedly 500,000+) participate in these forums. (And the Forum Search sucks anyway...)

Now with regard to translations of the rules into various languages: I have my doubts whether this is viable anyway (although the reasons to do it are clear), as the user would still be required to write contribution notes IN ENGLISH. And the different terminology used in a foreign-language rules version would only create confusion for the Invelos screeners. So I think foreign-language rules versions will work only if the contribution process itself could be completed in that foreign language as well.

You guys can defend it, sure. But please don't try to deny there is a level of expectation with a post like that. If you do, you are really only fooling yourself.

I only go by what is literally written. No more and no less. Others can get their hopes up from a post like that... but I personally refused to... so I personally wasn't let down in the least. That is all I was trying to say.

It's not so much as getting your hopes up, but rather expecting someone to keep their word. Is Ken technically keep his word? Yes, technically, but that's a weak argument, at best.

Say your kid was constantly skipping school and you had a talk with him or her, and they said, "I will promise you that you can expect a persistent, ongoing presence in school from me." Then you find out they were at school everyday, but ditching class to hang out in the bathroom, would you be upset?

Because technically they didn't lie to you.

I would be upset... but for a new reason. And I would tell her the same. She  kept her word... but I need more then that now.

Which has nothing to do with this... as even when I read that back when he first wrote it I didn't have any other expectations then what it actually says. You read it and you expected more then what it actually says. That is fine... understandable even. But that doesn't mean everyone expected more then what it actually says.

The only reason I replied to it at all is because of it being said what was on there is not true. But if you look at it the way it is written it is in fact true. No more and no less.

You are entirely more forgiving than me.

I am not the type to give someone a pass on a technicality, especially one like this.

Note, I'm not saying you are wrong, but I will also freely admit that it's frustrating that people let it slide and even defend it. I stand by that it's a completely misleading statement, and if not removed, maybe at the very least re-worded to say "Hey, we'll have an ongoing presence here, but it will be extremely rare when we actually give our opinion on something, clearing up any confusion and/or frustrations."
