What are you talking about?  Of course it's both in Sony/Columbia/TriStar.  They produce and distribute their own films theatrically as well as distribute them on home video.

Did you even bother to read it?

Yes I did double. Sony Pictures HOME Entertainment has nothing to do with theatrical releases and Sony Pictures has nothing to do with DVD distribution. They are arms of the parent company but that is wherebit stops. This topic is about fil distribution/release not home video distribution. One is in the rules under film details, the other should be in DVD details but is not.

No this is about Theratrical distributors. There have been cases of 2 studios putting a movie into theaters at the same time. Could be because a studio is bought by another company but already has a distribution deal set up.

Because you made reference to Sony's logo bring on the blu ray, which has nothing to do with the film. It's been a long time since I looked at either DVD I own, I can't speak to the blu ray beyond knowing what's on the case. And even longer sinceiI looked at my laserdisc...don't say it, I know what you're thinking, lol.

I see you went off that one post.  I was just talking about who retained the rights to it.  If you read all the posts you would have saw that.

I believe T!m is asking for a consensus about the rule.  While you maintain it is clear, it's obvious others aren't so clear according to the poll results.  Please let me know if I am wrong T!M, but I assume you were asking for a consensus on the interpretation of the rules, not for a rule change.

A bit late, I'm afraid, but yeah, you're absolutely right: I was merely looking for a consensus on the interpretation of the (current) rules, not for a rule change.

The problem tim is your consensus flies in the face of the rules. Wb is the releasing studio and so credited by your own comment and the rules tell you that. Studio goes in the first slot. So I repeat what I said before. Your consensus does not grant the right to ignore the rule. You can follow the rule or do nothing as I said before. Your consensus is wrong, completely. The problem is that the poll question is also wrong on its face and I don't really understand what you were asking. You provided all the info you needed to answer your own question, yet you set up a poll issue that had two parts that was patently not consitent with the rules. So I don't see confusion or lack of clarity, sorry tim. I am skeptical. I have to say that two of your three poll choices were simply against the rules, yet the information you provided gave one answer and the rule gave the other clearly. My skepticism tells me what the answer is and that makes me sad. We've been here before.

What is so difficult about the wording "Released Thru [studio]" in the original film credits? I agree with Skip (Winston Smith) on this one. This is all covered by the rules, so a poll is pointless and why a consensus when the rules already tell you what to add in the first place? The only possible question mark I can think of is which studio has to be added first, Warner or Orion.

As always, it seems you've hardly read any of the posts you're replying to - which is largely the reason we're on page ten by now. Case in point: the "consensus" I was talking about, was the consusus found in the posts, not the one shown by the poll results. I even made a post complaining about how the poll results didn't match the "consensus" that seemed to arise from various people's posts. But you don't read that and assume the opposite. So while the "consensus" I referred actually equals your point of view, you're now telling me (and yourself, apparently) that it's "wrong, completely". Once again: forum discussions would be so much easier if you just read what other people wrote some of the time...

The poll results, and the fact that we're on page ten by now, certainly indicate a lack of clarity to me. Again, I've always dealt with this the same way you have, but I just bought a few discs, including a fairly major American Blu-ray release, whose profiles left WB out, so I just thought I'd ask. Nothing more, nothing less. Be skeptical all you want, but that's really all there is to it.

We certainly have been here before. And seeing how it all played out, I wouldn't be surprised if we get there again sometime soon.

And hey: that's exactly what I asked. I tossed in a third option just to be complete and because I ran into several profiles that left WB out.
