Thoroughly good recommendation indeed. The ever evolving complexity of the film as it explores the many layers to a persons personality.
And to a lesser extent the consequences of our actions. Everything in this film is well paced and gripping.

I still think Stallone is the greatest action hero ever but the story semed kinda weak. Loved Stone Cold Steve Austin as the villian! |

Not surprisingly as i guessed from the trailer. It's style is appealing to the emo teens and the homosexual references are off the scale in this one.
A brief quote from a conversation between Ron and Harry though i don't remember it all. But it went something like this.
Ron:"I got you something Harry" (It's a wand but does not say it)
Harry:"Wow thanks Ron"
Ron:"Yeah it's 10 inches you don't need it much bigger than that"
Hmmm indeed. Any way this is far superior to the last one i seen which bored me to no end. And despite the reasons i stated above it's still a pretty good watch.

The question of is there life after death. That when the love of your life dies is there much point living. That's the simple enough premise of A Single Man. But beneath that is something more profound than your typical English drama.
A Single Man makes use of it's imagery to draw you deeper into the character. Mostly sporting a washed-out sepia tone look, to evoke emptiness and lack of clarity. The scenes of where some sort of reason for living are brought into full colour.
It's a nice touch and something not used very often in film. This all ties in very well to the time period and setting of 1962 LA at the height of the Cuban missile crisis. Where the past seemed so beautiful and the future was bleak.
I say it has more in common with European film making than British filmaking because of how art house it is.
And if you do enjoy European film making and art house. You will enjoy this film.

One of the few exceptions of an English language remake of a foreign film, being good. You know once you seen bunch of films from a wide range of genres how most storys will pan out. Well Brothers you don't know how it's going to turn as the tention is just off the wall.
Toby Maguire continues to show his deversity as an actor. Overcoming his rather limted physical chartistics with his fantastic talent.
Maybe if he had not taken the Spider Man roles he might have become more established and less type cast.
Any way i will be sure to check out the Danish orginal at some point.
