So this would actually induce me to add a BY, where many people voice the opinion to stay away from these for the moment.

The longer it takes Ken to come up with a BY solution, the more they're going to proliferate through the database like a virus.  At this point I doubt there is a solution other than trashing BY altogether.  It was a poor design idea to add the feature without providing any rules or guidance for when it is to be used.

No I think it's a good idea...what doesn't help is not everybody that uses DVDP comes to the forum's and see the requests on how to use the new added features or plug-ins etc. whereas Ken said in the forum's too only use BY to distinquish between two (or more) actors of the same name, most of us kept to that. But all of a sudden some people started adding BY regardless of two actors with same name or not...now they are in it's becoming a pain to get them back out.

That's one of the reason behind my suggestion for a Main Master Cast / Crew Database...but died quickly didn't it.

People not visiting the Forums are one problem, to be sure, but it's not just what Ken said in the forum, but also in the rules:

Enter birth years only when necessary to differentate between two actors with the same name. When submitting a contribution that adds a birth year to one or more credits, list justification in the contribution notes.

[If this has been discussed above, I apologize for repeating it.  I just jumped to the end of the thread rather than read from page 5 on.]

maybe you either have the StarWars cast locked...

Does this mean you have to have cast unlocked for the procss to work?  I have locked a LOT of my titles and would hate to have to go through them and unlocking casts, since I have around 5000 titles in my database (2394 owned).

no you don't need to unlock any cast - you are not updating the profiles - you are updating the possible cast with new headshots. It doesn't matter what you have locked - after all a person may be locked in one profile and not in another.

Thats why you select to choose which headshot to use when you restore the new ones..

there is no headshot folder.

Headshots are held in the cast/crew database.

Headshots are in your local database, but the images are not stored as separate files (like cover scans). They are stored inside your local database files. As far as I know, you can only extract them through clipboard in case you want to save them as separate files.

The Headshot Master Database is just one tool for importing new headshots into your own database. It has nothing to do with the headshot import tool which was based on separate image files.

I guess what I meant was if I use the master database file do I still need to use the headshot import tool for adding crew photos or are those included within the master file?

Using the database is an alternative to the import tool.

Yes, the headshots are included in the headshot database file. You do not need the import tool.

We will be launching in early 2007!

It's July now... (second half of the year). They seem to be rather slow...

Also, I could imagine it'll be a paid service...
