With every passing hour our solar system comes forty-three thousand miles closer to globular cluster M13 in the constellation Hercules, and still there are some misfits who continue to insist that there is no such thing as progress.

You may not be aware, but this could be considered as in extremely bad taste, given what's happened in Finland.

Actually, that just reinforces the point.

You're kidding me, right?
How the hell does a young man going on a killing spree in a college with legally-owned firearms reinforce an anti-gun control video?
A simple sense of decency for the feelings of the friends and family could at least have delayed a posting of this type!

Just FYI, the incident in Finland did not even cross my mind when I posted it.  Based on a similar event, someone somewhere could claim that it is insensitive no matter when it was posted, since this stuff happens every single day to one degree or another.

I regret that you were offended by it, however, that was not my intent.

I beg to disagree: "this stuff" does not happen every day. There are times when videos about gun control can be posted. The day after a massacre at a college is not one of them.
I understand that it was not your intention to offend, but even when it is pointed out to you that it could be and is offensive, you try and exploit the tragedy to justify your posting.
I'm sorry, but that to me is extremely distasteful and I have no choice but to give the video a red arrow.

People are killed by criminals every single day.  The fact the guy in Finland legally purchased the weapon(s) has nothing to do with the fact that he is a criminal.  If you like I can cite at least one criminal murder every day for the past week.  I notice you did not cite the deaths in Pakistan earlier this week( a whole lot more than in Finland)!

I did not try to exploit anything.  You brought up the incident in Finland, not me.  I merely pointed out that if just one of the people who were present at the time had been armed, perhaps the death toll might not have been as high.  If you think that is "exploiting" the situation, that's your problem.

A bit melodramatic, aren't we?

BTW, your red arrow will not in any way influence either my original post or my subsequent posts, even though that is clearly your intent.  That is known as censorship of the worst kind.

My red arrow is there simply to show my distaste at your posting. No more, no less. I hope other users similarly use the reputation system to show their feelings towards the post: green or red.
And I was wondering when the censorship card would be played. Either that or the "free speech" one.
That's a cheap blow and totally unjustified: I have made no comment on the content of the video, nor do I wish to. My problem is with the timing of the posting and the distress it could cause to other users. You obviously don't have a problem with distressing other users, I do.
I'll turn a blind eye to your equally distateful comments about what if other people had been armed. This is not a debate about the rights or wrongs of gun control and ownership, it's purely about taking into consideration other people's feelings about traumatic events.

The problem is that it is YOU who associated the video to the events in Finland, not me.  I made absolutely no comment when I posted the video.

Then you accuse me of being distasteful when I respond to your linking of the two which was not intended by me.

And I absolutely believe that you were attempting to get me to remove the video and/or edit my subsequent posts.  When that did not work....the red zinger appeared.  Interesting sequence of events, if you ask me.

I brought the incident in Finland to your attention because you may not have been aware of what had happened when posting the video. Also the reason I didn't immediately give a red arrow. I felt a red arrow was unjustified if the case had been you were ignorant of the tragedy. I simply wanted you to be aware that in the context of the Finnish shootings, your video may upset people. You have to remember there are quite a few Finnish users who frequent the forums. You're the one who linked them when you said it "reinforced" your point.
So you have made it clear you were aware of the shootings and posted this video about gun control anyway. Regardless of my beliefs about the subject matter of the video, in this context I found the posting of it only a day after such a massacre in very bad taste and I used the reputation system accordingly to show this.
You could have dealt with this in a number of ways: yes, you could have removed the video and maybe posted it again in a few weeks. But you could equally have simply added a disclaimer to your post making people more aware of the subject matter and content of the video, and that it wasn't related to the events in Finland.
Instead you chose to stand your ground and accuse someone who tried to make you aware that your post could be upsetting to some people as "censorship".
