I noticed we have a nice Lock List in which we can indicate if we want items locked: For profiles that are accurate and verified, you can also place locks to ensure the data stays correct.

I couldn't find any rules according to this and I also couldn't find any info about it.
Could someone please tell me more?

Does it help for example.
Are items that are locked only by me, actually locked or do you need locks from several people?

If memory serves each items requires 6 locks (or maybe only 5), after that if someone wants to change them he/she has to ask Invelos to unlock it.  It's an underused feature which I think should be used much more, if would put an end to a lot of ping-ponging

For US, UK, Germany etc.. this is a practical feature.

For small markets like Belgium, the Netherlands,.. it is hard to find 6 people who think the information is correct and take the time to lock it.

I tried to lock about 50 dvd's in previous version, and the most I have seen is 3 locks on just one item of a contribution.

I'm from Belgian nationality (living in the netherlands), but I contribute my dvd's as dutch dvd's, since they are almost always the same as the Belgian dvds (I buy them in Belgium). The only thing is, there are more Dutch users, and thus more Dutch profiles and they are more accurate.

So for the Dutch, start locking...

A little prudence and caution is necessary here. I will NEVER throw a lock on unless I am ABSOLUTELY certain the data is accurate and I will not do it based on my own Full audit, I am too human and I can make typos or miss a piece of data,

NEVER throw locks on Disc ID data, ther are many times when titles use Multiple Disc ID's, we can only speculate why, new pressings, multiple pressing plants being used, etc, but it happens. Invelos needs to capture ALL of the Disc ID variants to be able create an accurate record for each title.

The disadvantage of this feature is, that in case of a necessary change to a locked profile, you have to find exactly those people that set the locks in the first place.

If one of them isn't using the program anymore, the removal of his lock can only be done through Invelos.

Furthermore, if more than six people locked the portion of the profile, you'll need more than one lock removed, to put the number below six again.

That's the backside of this feature, and the reason why I peronally don't like it too much

They do help if you have someone who tries to submit incorrect information even after they are declined the 1st time around. There is really no other way to stop them, except for voting them down each time they try.

Exactly because of the reasons you have given , I have not one online lock set anymore. Until Ken gives us a possibility to remove a wrongly set online lock without the cooperation of the locking person, this feature is more dangerous than useful. Removing online locks could be implemented by collecting unlock votes or by calling a higher instance like a group of mederators/screeners.

Ken, can you confirm that it is the case that you capture all Disc-ID info, and it is not just overwritten like all other fields? I have seen no official confirmation of this. It seems really strange to allow locks if it is the case, and I am wondering if it is just the over-active imagination of a certain user again?

To that list I'd add such things as Easter Eggs & Cast.  Both of these fields can have new data appear unexpectedly.

"Blood Diamond" was released this week.  The UPC on my copy is different than the one in the database. So I contributed it under that UPC, which was received and released just this morning.  Both profiles are virtually identical for all intents.

I would like to know the answer to this as well.

All Disc ID information is captured, but not stored in the profile.  It is stored in the master list to support adding by Disc ID for variations other than the accepted version.
