Universal released the Halloween II Blu-ray on 9/13/2011.

However, they soon after issued a corrected/replacement disc in a free exchange program due to Moustapha Akkad's name not being in the opening credits.

But... when Universal issued the "corrected" disc, they also upgraded the audio to DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1. The original released disc had only "lossy" DTS 5.1

There's a contribution up that changes the audio to DTS-HD Master Audio (they state the replacement disc in their contribution notes), and I'm really unsure of just how to vote in this circumstance.

Does the original "lossy" audio of the original release trump Universal's later issued replacement disc? As far as I know the original audio on the release wasn't faulty, Universal simply chose to also upgrade it to "lossless" when they fixed the opening credits on the corrected disc.

As I understand it, the profile must match the original release.
No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever.
There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom.
Against this power, governments and tyrants and armies cannot stand.
The Centauri learned this lesson once.
We will teach it to them again.
Though it take a thousand years, we will be free.

That's what I'm leaning to as well.

I already replaced the original Disc ID in the profile with the updated replacement Disc ID, since that is specifically allowed by the rules, but I didn't update the audio then.

I don'y have this title so I don't have much skin in this game....but....

Given there was a disc exchange/replacement for the original....Doesn't the new one really replace the original?

I have to agree with Scooter. This isn't a re-release but a replacement for the original, so I lean toward using the data from the fixed original. I guess it's a gray zone...

Actually, I completely forgot. I submitted the disc itself with the following notes:

"This profile is for the replacement disc sent out by Universal due to an error in the credits. However, there is one other significant change and that is this disc has a 5.1 DTS-HD MA track instead of a standard DTS 5.1 track. All info here was copied over from the original profile (UPC 025192117558)"

In hindsight not sure if this was the appropriate action but if those who have the disc, it will have the correct info...

FWIW, or to fuel more debate...

Not everyone exchanged their discs, either by not knowing, or not caring quite enough to bother. I know the later is true, as I haven't swapped mine and probably won't.

That's very true. I wasn't even going to bother returning mine for the replacement of the single missing credit in the opening of the film. But when I heard of the audio upgrade, I went ahead and got the replacement.

But I can easily see why some people wouldn't bother, since nothing on the original issued disc was technically defective.

In my humble opinion ... No.

If we were to go down that road we would have do define the exact difference between a "replacement" and "re-release". But by what? Time? Press-statements that might not be available in 1-2 years?

We now have a very clear and strict rule, please let us not blur that line.

The real answer would be, as for re-release covers, a proper handling of variants.

I'd say: profile the original release by UPC and the replacement disc by Disc ID.

With the different specs, this is probably the best idea yet.

Ok, so somebody is attempting to remove the profile by disc ID. Stating:

If this is a legitimate re-issue, it should be contribute as profile id AC84-8320-7609-4EE3.

Given I'm the only one with this copy, at least no one else has contributed any changes, how does one add by profile ID? Also, is this a proper removal?

You have a valid, commercially purchased disc with a valid disc ID.  The profile is valid and shouldn't be removed from the database.

Not sure i understand the rest of the discussion so i'll leave that alone.
Bad movie?  You're soaking in it!

Checking audio format in the online database is a useful and important feature.

Not figuring out a way to include information from both discs, and knowingly entering misleading information is not useful, not user friendly, and undermines the integrity of the database.
