Have you considered the possibility that your RAM or hard drive might be defective?

Sorry, that exaggeration made me smile. Too far invested? 30$?
And If you think Profiler is the buggiest software ever... I doubt you where around when Win 95 hit the shelves.
And for almost all others it runs smooth, so it *seems* like the problem in not a general one of Profiler.

Like DJ Doena suggested, all this data errors *could* occur because of a defective RAM or some worn out sectors on your HDD. You should check these first.

Also a little bit more info about you system (Hardware, OS etc.) could be helpful to narrow it down.

A basic course in computers might help.
And as stated above, what are the specifics about your computer, its memory and hard drive size. etc..  and its operating system.

funny... I've got 100 pieces of other software running and don't have a problem with those... I can assure you my system is fine.  I'm not an idiot.

invested = time putting in 600 + movies, not the 30 bucks it costs to buy

I've got over 17,000 profiles and have been using this program and its variations since 2000 and I don't have any problems that I have not been able to solve myself.

I also have repaired, maintained, implemented, designed and managed software. hardware and firmware projects since 1960.

I suggest you run the Database Repair Utility, (DVDProDBRepair) under Start>All Programs>DVDProfiler

He did. And he always gets some invalid BLOB entries. Which let me to believe that one of his memory components might be defective.

What you could also try: Repair your database one last time. Make a backup via File -> Backup Database. Create a new, empty one via File -> Open Database. Open that new database. Restore the backup.

Have you any plugins installed that might screw with your data?

When doing this, you have to deselect "Restore full user database" I believe, or else you will just restore the error of the original database as well.

You had problems with Profiler in September as well. It sounds to me like it's gotten worse. Karsten is probably correct in that there is a HDD problem (bad sector) or a RAM issue.

You should first check the status of your HDD with chkdsk.

Click "Start". In "Accessories" you'll find "Command Prompt". Right-click on "Command Prompt" and select "Run as Administrator". The Command Prompt window will open. Without the quotes type "cd c:\". Without the quotes type "chkdsk". Without specifying any parameters, it will run in read only mode. This may take a while depending on the size of your HDD. After completion type "exit" without the quotes to close Command Prompt. This should report if your HDD has any bad sectors.

I agree it sounds like memory or storage errors.

@apturbo, I assume you came here looking for ideas. Perhaps swallow your pride and consider that maybe there is in fact something wrong with your system. There are many hundreds (maybe thousands) of satisfied customers of this software. We are trying to add you to those ranks.

Some ideas to add to the others already posted:

- View your system logs to see if there are any messages related to memory or storage
- View SMART data for your hard drives
- Run a memory diagnostics tool (Microsoft has a free one)
- Check / replace IO cables. Reseat controller if not on motherboard.
- Consider that a virus or other program may be impacting the registry entries or dlls used by DVD Profiler

I don't mention these lightly. Personally, over the years, I have experienced hard to find errors directly related to bad memory, bad PCI controller, bad cables and failing hard drives - that only showed up sporatically. But once fixed, disappeared forever. A few months ago I even had a power supply issue that was causing sporatic hard drive errors. It drove me nuts, but once I put in a new higher wattage power supply, all the issues went away (I had been adding drives to my server without thinking about PS capacity - my dumb mistake). As you know, even stranger things can happen ...

It may take some time and patience. If you stop trying to place blame, perhaps you will not get as many caustic responses, and we can all focus on trying to help you.
Thanks for your support.

Mediadogg, the only plugin I'm using is your loaddvd 1.61.  which by the way I am very happy with and have the utmost respect for your program abilities.

I will attempt to resolve the issue by creating a new db and will let you know how it goes.

I am still interested to know what the "send message" thing is for when an error occours... does no one look at these?  Does no one here in this forum have any interest in looking at the info that is generated when I get these errors?  It's almost like the attitude is the info generated is useless and won't do any good in figuring out what the real problem is.

Windows cannot access the file  for one of the following reasons: there is a problem with the network connection, the disk that the file is stored on, or the storage drivers installed on this computer; or the disk is missing. Windows closed the program DVD Profiler because of this error.

Program: DVD Profiler

The error value is listed in the Additional Data section.
User Action
1. Open the file again. This situation might be a temporary problem that corrects itself when the program runs again.
2. If the file still cannot be accessed and
- It is on the network, your network administrator should verify that there is not a problem with the network and that the server can be contacted.
- It is on a removable disk, for example, a floppy disk or CD-ROM, verify that the disk is fully inserted into the computer.
3. Check and repair the file system by running CHKDSK. To run CHKDSK, click Start, click Run, type CMD, and then click OK. At the command prompt, type CHKDSK /F, and then press ENTER.
4. If the problem persists, restore the file from a backup copy.
5. Determine whether other files on the same disk can be opened. If not, the disk might be damaged. If it is a hard disk, contact your administrator or computer hardware vendor for further assistance.
