To my knowledge, the US has not sold leaded gas for years. I haven't seen any in years, at any rate. I think stores sell lead additives for the few engines still around that need leaded gas.

Most stations now charge the same regardless of payment method. There are a few that will give a discount for cash sales, but I don't think there are very many (only 1 in my area, that I'm aware of). There are still fees associated with processing debit card transactions, so I'd think any discounts would apply strictly to cash only.

Gas is priced and sold by the gallon in the US. Just be aware that all US gas is also priced out to three decimals, that is the price on the sign may say $3.85/gal but that's really $3.859/gal, so you're basically paying $3.86/gal.

ARCO (AmPm) no longer accepts credit cards, but in addition to cash, they accept debit cards, and they run 10 to 15 cents per gallon less than many competitors. Some (not all) Chevron station offer a 9 to 15 cent/gallon discount for cash or using a Chevron/Texaco credit card. By the 1970s, American Oil was the first nationwide chain to completely eliminate leaded fuel. When I was racing and autocrossing, the AH Sprite (Mk II) I 'crossed had such high compression even Chevron white pump (101 octane then) would ping and pre-ignite, so we'd fill half the tank with 110/115 avgas (aviation fuel) before adding the white pump, then wiggle the car to get 105/110 octane than would burn clean and not knock. Back then, most racetrack had 101, 105, 110, 115, and various non-gasoline fuels (NitroMethane and others).

Okay,  your muffler won't really fall off...but, you might run out of toilet  paper.  LOL....

Although I do believe some place do still leaded gasoline, other statements here show that it's not exactly something you will accidentally fill up with on your next visit to some random station.

Instead, our petroleum gas (at least down here) is being replaced with an ethanol-petroleum mix, stated it was done to save petroleum per gallon which is safer on the environment... but it drops your mileage such that you have to fill up more often, so the only change in the end is even more money being spent on gasoline to go the same distance.

I live in NJ, we have a bunch of refineries here so typically gas is cheaper then much of the country... right now it is at a huge high... yesterday I paid $3.80 a gallon for regular unleaded... or converted, just over $1 per liter. This is the highest I have ever paid... I am 28 years old and have been driving for 11 years... the lowest, around 9 years ago I paid .79 a gallon or .21 a liter... and in my lifetime I have never seen leaded gas, in fact I remember being a child asking my parents why they called gas "unleaded"

As far as even pricing for debit/credit and cash typically gas stations consider debit and credit the same... and many do charge more for credit, usually about a 1%-2% premium... however you can find chains and aggressive independants willing to advertise and honor "same price cash or credit"... in addition, many credit cards here offer incentives for buying fuel... for example, my Discover card gives me 5% cash back on fuel, so for me, even if there is a 1-2% surcharge i'm ahead.
