ok, I have noticed a few things with these multipack collections and I am just wondering about how they are being handled.

As an example I picked up Resident Evil Trilogy

It had RE, RE Apocalypse, and RE Extention

Now as these were each on their own disks I had it add the child profiles, taking up slots 608-610

The odd thing is that RE Trilogy is also taking a slot where it really shouldn't ( as I think of things )

As another example I picked up the Batman 4 Film Favs that had 4 movies on 2 disks

Batman, Batman & Robin, Batman Returns, Batman Forever

So again each takes a slot along with the "Box"

So in the first instance the only question would be why the "parent" takes a slot

and on the second I would wonder about a slot # with an A/B side 209A-Batman 209B-Batman & Robin 210A-Batman Returns 210B-Batman Forever etc

So can the collection number contain a letter ?

Also can the Parent not have a number? and not effect anything else ?

The main reason I have not allowed a lot of the boxes to load child profiles is if its 1 title with 6 disks ( Season DVD ala CSI: Season 1) vs Multi Packs with 3 movies in them.

Of course a lot of this will change when I get some of the player carrousel's.

Just wondering about the disk handling etc etc

Either right-click it in your list or select and do ctrl-P. You can change how the profile is counted and collection numbers from there.

I was more worried about something not having a number (pooching up the DB ) or having a number and letter pooching up something.

Something else I kinda noticed is that the 4 Film collection for Blade doesn't have child profiles.

Ok, I think I have kinda figured out the child profile thing BUT I am running into an issue with the 4 Fan Films Blade.

The disk id's are associated with the 4 Fan Films, so when I scan them to add them, it says it is already in my collection.

another option is to use the "other" id that comes up for it is also already in my collection ( I own Blade and Blade 2 outside of this disk )

so with that, and that I have basically doubles how would I go about setting this up correctly for a Parent/Child ?

Is there a way to have duplicate entries ?

I assume you're getting the UPC profiles and not the disc ID profiles when you scan the discs. What you can do is go to the UPC profile in your collection, select Change UPC and instead of the UPC enter the disc ID from the disc (while it's still in the drive). Repeat this for all the discs in the box set if needed.

You can now add the normal UPC profiles to your collection again for the duplictate titles you have.

If KinoNiki guessed right, his solution would be the best.

If however the single movies are really entered under their DiscID you would have to use manual profiles:
Go the same way KiniNiki described, but instead of using the DiscID manually enter "M1", "M2"...
After that, re-add the Discs with their DiscID and move one of the foursome to the Parent-Profile

cya, Mithi

PS There is also a Plugin that really copies profiles to manual, but 1) I can't remember which and 2) for 4 profiles the workload should be manageable.

thanks guys.

The first disk that holds Blade and Blade 2 if I use Disk ID it is tied to the 4 Fan Favs, the Disk ID is also held by the singles, but they are in the system by UPC.

I'll tinker when I get home frrom work tonight.

ok 3 of the 4 disks are in as part of the 4 film pack. And this seems to be the issue with build this with child profiles. All teh disk ID's are attached to the 4 Film.

The single DVD packs I have were entered by UPC

So, how the heck do I fix this correctly ?

And Ill be honest I am lost at what you all mean by manual in this instance.

Bump.

I am not sure what to do here.

They don't have individual UPC'sper disk so that Disk IDs are linked to the 4 Fan Files UPC

So All 4 disks IDs are linked to the UPCor 4 Fan Films.

So, is the correct way to actually do this to remove the disk IDs from the 4 Fan Films, and enter new profiles with Disk ID's and NO upc ? As I am sure you cant have 4 entries with the same upc.

This would be a lot simpler is we could have duplicates in the data base.

Still a little lost on getting fixed in a correct way.

They don't have UPC's They are part of a 2 dics set A/B sides for a total of 4 movies

The Box set is 4 Fan Films Blade Collection UPC - 794043132223

The 4 movies are :

Blade - Disk ID - FD8A8B8EF9238871
Blade II - Disk ID - C060DA0D0301AD1D
Blade Trinity - Disk ID - 26514F026E61EC6B
Blade : House of Chthon - Disk ID - 559275B2C139186B

The Disks I own as singles are :

Blade : New Line Platinum Series 1 Disk - UPC 794043470929 - Disk ID - 08E427704C4A99E3 [BLADE_16X9]
Blade II: New Line Platinum Series 2 disk set - UPC 794043555428 - Disk ID - 05E7B65FCFFBE94B [BLADE2]

So as of right now I have Blade Hosue of Chthon and Blade II as I found different profiles to add but the disk ID's or product is not actually correct. There were no other profiles for Blade Trinity as I recall etc etc.

Thank you.

Let's start with the 4 Fan Films Blade Collection UPC - 794043132223

This is incorrectly set up in the online database so needs to be changed. You should remove the existing disc IDs from the profile's Discs tab and instead add the box set contents as children (aka child profiles). But first you need to create one child profile for each side of each disc, so you need to create four new profiles in total.

#1. Blade - Disk ID - FD8A8B8EF9238871

This doesn't seem to exist in the database so needs to be created (I checked both the US and Canada locality but couldn't find it). You can use one of the existing Blade profiles as a starter and change the UPC to your disc ID and any other details to the version you have. Then attach it to the box set parent above. Do NOT add the disc ID to the parent profile's Discs tab, use the Box Set Contents dialogue for this.

#2. Blade II - Disk ID - C060DA0D0301AD1D

This disc already exists in the database with the UPC 794043698828. You need only to download it, make any relevant changes and resubmit it using the disc ID instead.

#3. Blade Trinity - Disk ID - 26514F026E61EC6B

Again, I couldn't find this. Follow the same procedure as #1.

#4. Blade : House of Chthon - Disk ID - 559275B2C139186B

Same as above, follow #1.

When you have created all the children, you can attach them to the parent profile and contribute your changes. Good luck!

Ok, now the question begs, lets say someone dosen't want to down load the child profiles for the film shouldn't the parent still carry the disk ids ?

I'll start working on editing today at some point.

No, the box set parent only functions as a container for the child profiles, it shouldn't hold any data that belongs to the individual discs.

The only exception is TV series, where the child profiles are optional for those who want them.

The parent profile is more than a container. Only the data explicitly prohibited by the rules is not allowed. Everything else is allowed. Some data (e.g. running time) is specially calculated for the parent. Other data is specially selected (e.g. production year).

In my understanding the rules try to allow all data which makes sense for all the films in the box set.
