I see 007 as simply a Graphics piece and we ignore graphics. thus Special Edition. I know what a user has done in this regard, and who, and i have no further comment.
ASSUME NOTHING!!!!!!

Diamonds Are Forever: Special Edition

Are, Is etc. are verbs so get capitalised.
Special Edition because it's the standard and 00Gun would look akward.

While I agree that we should ignore the "007" and use "Special Edition", I find it very strange that people are so willing to ignore this logo, but so unwilling to ignore the "T4xi" or the "L4yer Cake" logos.

007 should not be included as part of the title of James Bond films. This has been something that people have long tried to get into the database, even from the early days. [...]

It is just a symbol on the cover of the DVD/BluRay, it is not part of the title, IMO.

But it isn't for the title field but for the edition field. So we must use the 007 and enter "Special 007 Edition". Sure it's stupid and it doesn't make sense, but it doesn't make sense either to enter T4XI as a title...

Maybe we should stop doing things that don't make sense instead of making new decisions that don't make sense either...

I would be the first one to be happy to see a lot of common sense use in the database, but it isn't the case and I don't see why the edition field had to be treated differently than the title field. If we use the logo that we can type on the keyboard for one, it's just normal to do the same for the other...

Title: Diamonds Are Forever
Edition: Special Edition

Even if we consider 007 is part of the Edition and not just  at random at this position, it would be imho Ok to leave it out.

It's usually safe to use one of the built-in selections if appropriate. If you are using a non-standard description, take it from the DVD box, and ensure it will help distinguish between different releases of the same title.

It would the use of a built-in Edition and I would say this is Ok and the solution I would prefer in this case.

Easiest way would be to let the users actually voting on the contribution decide.

It's exactly this inexplicable outlook on things that's tempting to ruin (the online part of) DVD Profiler for me. How hard is it to replace the word "title" in Gerri's sentence with "edition", really? Why on earth wouldn't the same principle apply to the "edition" field as well? Do we really need to hire a bunch of lawyers and turn the rules into a twelve-hundred page document with each and every eventuality hammered out? Is there really not even an ounce of common sense in some of our users?

If 007 it's "just a symbol" for one of these fields, then why would we suddenly treat it any different for the next field? Why oh why must we go through this every time? Here we have a pretty clear ruling on a certain subject, and then without fail, the minute someone dares to actually apply that ruling in a sensible way (and obviously the intended way), someone always steps up and says: "yeah, well, but that's not exactly what was said". Case in point: "yeah, but that was about the title, not about the edition". I'm sorry, but... come on!! If this isn't "trying to be difficult on purpose", then I don't know what is...

It's not a normal 7 so it's clearly part of a logotype. The "gun" symbol can't be entered so why don't we just leave it out.

I'm not, but those examples have been approved by the greater powers. Doesn't mean I like it or think it's a good decision, but whining constantly about it doesn't seem very productive. Just lock your titles and move on.

I only asked, because to me it doesn't appear correct.

There are a number of entries in the DB that are this way.

If I look at it, it appears that 007 is part of the case artwork, not  a part of the edition designator.  It is unfortunate that the edition designator is located in that position.

For me, this is not any different than the MGM logo or DVD logo splitting the edition designator on the top of some cases.

We would not enter "Special DVD Edition" or "Special Metro-Goldwyn-Meyer Edition". So why would we include the case artwork here?
