| Posted: | | | | I'm trying to gather peoples thoughts on this issue as to wether we should except rental copy's in to the database, given the limited amount of time that they would be available to rent.
If you have any other thoughts please add them. |

| Posted: | | | | Yeah, there's no reason not to include rentals - they tend to have their own barcodes so why not? You'll probably find quite a few in the database already. |

| Posted: | | | | I offten buy used rental DVDs in the Video Rental Store and enter them of course into the Database.
If I just rent them I would not add them to Database. | | | Raphael |

| Posted: | | | | I agree... if you buy them there is no reason not to add them. But I don't think they should be added if you just rented them. So I voted Other... since you made it sound like you would add movies you just rent. | | | Pete | | | Last edited: by Addicted2DVD |

| Posted: | | | | Absolutely. I own probably about 100 ex-rentals. They have a different UPC to the retail versions and often have different language/subtitle options. I've also noticed (in the UK at least) they often less extras or a different version of the movie (theatrical cut only etc).
I don't see how including them could make things difficult especially as (again, the UK at least) info is easy to find via www.dvd-subtitles.com
I can see how not including them could cause problems though.
(I'm only talking about ones I have bought though, not on es I have rented which I don't catalogue in any way) | | | Last edited: by samuelrichardscott |

| Posted: | | | | Yeah, they can go in. Just don't include "Rental", "Rental Copy", "Rental Version" or something like that as part of the "Title" field - put in the "Edition" field instead. I've found this to be a pretty common mistake... |

| Posted: | | | | I don't see any reason why they shouldn't be added if rented - some day, somebody is going to buy it. |

| Posted: | | | | Ok should we have the option then to hide them if we do not wish to see them in either the Upcoming list or the add DVD's by title list? |

So I would so including Rental data generically is no good, why do i care about alist of movies I have rented, what am I managing at that point.i have no doubt that there are users who would want to do that and they can locally, but I really don't see the use of such data to the broader scheme. Profiler's function is essentially to manage your collection, I don't collect rentals. | | | ASSUME NOTHING!!!!!! CBE, MBE, MoA and proud of it. Outta here

| Posted: | | | | As Skip said : If someone buy them no problem, if don't no reason to be in the database.
By the way make sure they have their own distinct barcode since the rent only version isn't always the same than the for sale version. | | | Last edited: by Jimmy S |

But they still have different extras/audio/subs/UPC's and say Rental Copy on them (at least in the UK). I can't think of a single reason NOT to add them, especially if they have different UPC's. You'd be surprised how many ex-rentals are for sale in the used market. |

I have at least one ex-rental that I have never seen having been sold anywhere (Finnish locality "Out of the Cold" (2001)). I wonder if it is common at all to release movies ONLY for rental versions? | | | Mika I hate people who love me, and they hate me. (Bender Bending Rodriguez) |

| Posted: | | | | Yes, in my opinion they should be included. Having bought some rental versions myself and contributed to some of them, I see no problem there. The rules do not prohibit it and almost all rental DVDs end up in the bargain bin when they don't make enough money. By the way, the German Profiler community had quite an argument some years ago whether or not the rental versions should be flaged as such even if it is not stated so on the front cover (often it is written in small print on the back side). The majority was in favor of doing so. I would even understand if someone added a DVD he has rented just because he wants to keep track of the movies he watched. It would be cheating if you count them to your DVD count but hey... | | | Deutsches DVD Profiler Forum: www.dvdprofiler-forum.de |

Of course I own them once I purchase them (never said I was renting) - but simply because this DVD was once (as in past-tense) rental-only doesn't mean it can't be in the DVDP database. Poor rentals.
