| | Posted: | | | | Currently living between two places right now first is Livingston a commuter town smack bang in the centre of Scotland's central belt not much to talk about it's a place where lots of trades men joiners, plumbers ect live to easily commute to any place on the belt. The people that do travel here to work are mostly from Edinburgh to work in the electronics industry giving Livingston the title of the silicon valley of Europe lot of Japanese live here to for that reason. For any one that ever wondered what a Wall Mart or Asda as we call it.  Something that looks like a hanger for a jumbo jet.   So yeah pretty much shops and more shops here. I also live in Edinburgh a bit hope to move here permanently. The city is world heritage sight first city to be be given the title city of literature and the hub of the Scottish enlightenment which lead to most of what we take for granted today. To be fair, that was 2 years ago and I live over a mile from the river, water only got a foot or so deep by my house and stopped short of my floor joists. I work in the tall white, building, though. | | Posted: | | | | Turku, Finland. Finlands oldest city (13th century). The word Finland originally only ment the area around Turku. Thats where the regions name Finland Proper comes from. Its also the former capital of Finland (1809–1812). The first university in Finland was founded in Turku (1640). The Great Fire of Turku (1827) burned down almost everything (75%). Most of Finnish archives, including practically all material from the Middle ages, was destroyed in the fire.. Later in WW2 it was the most bombed city in Finland (319 buildings destroyed), so A LOT of old history has been lost. Great Fire of Turku  WW2, bombings in Turku    Turku Cathedral  Turku Castle  Luostarinmäki Handicrafts Museum There is no other place like this in the world. An old slum (18th century – early 19th century) compleatly in its original place and form. Due to its location the Great Fire never reached it.  Vappu (May Day / Walpurgis day) The biggest carnival-style festival in Finland (with midsummer and new years).  Harbour Due to the war reparations to Soviet Union after WW2, we had to build them ships. The Soviets were extremely demanding on everything. So it made the ship yards work extra hard. This in return bred the Ship building skills to a whole new level. These days the biggest cruisers in the world are built here, which also means the recent economic events will hit my city pretty badly. BUT, since I sit on top of ridge i don't have to worry about keeping water wings handy  DC is roughly 40 miles due south | | | ASSUME NOTHING!!!!!!

| | Posted: | | | | I Live in Rotterdam, Holland  City of Feyenoord Football Club(Soccer for those in the US), this is their stadium De Kuip The Euromast, a famous landmark build for the 1960 Floriade This is the Erasmus Brug (Bridge), a bridge spanning the Maas river. After just being build the bridge was closed of during windy periods as it started to swing from side to side. This problem fortunately have been solved now  Rotterdam was Bombarded by the Germans in 1940 which destroyed almost the entire Center. Because of that we don't have that many older buildings. The Laurens Kerk (Chuch) is on of the few remaining  Not far from that church we have de Blaak, here the trainstation  and de Kubuswoningen  Ever since the bombardment we have been building and we continue to do so, here the new Train station that should be finished by 2014  Paul | | | | Last edited: by paulb_99 |
