At present there is a contribution up for voting where halfway through the cast listing there is a divider saying 'Rest of cast listed alphabetically'. My feeling is that this is an unnecessary usage of a divider but just wanted to see what everyone else thought.

Agree, but if there is a divider in the on screen cast list that says  'Rest of cast listed alphabetically'  then i would also not vote against it either

I would, and have for the film Taken.  In my opinion, a divider is a divider.  If it is in the credits, we should include it.
No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever.
There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom.
Against this power, governments and tyrants and armies cannot stand.
The Centauri learned this lesson once.
We will teach it to them again.
Though it take a thousand years, we will be free.

I've done something similar for a lot of Hong Kong titles, which often breaks groups into sections in their end credits, like "Starring"/"Co-Starring"/"Guest Appearances"/etc.  I find better to just include the breaks to match the credits, since the filmmakers felt the need to separate the list as such.

In my opinion, this is absolutely incorrect use of dividers and would vote against it every time.
In addition, it doesn't make any sense to add those dividers now since they have to be changed to the new divider type in a (hopefully very) short time.

It would only be in improper use if, as said, the credits didn't have that divider themselves. If it's in there, then it would be quite correct.

I agree.  If the credits has a divider, include it in DVDP.

Agreed. I didn't know how to handle dividers at first. But now I understand to include dividers when they are in the cast credits. Group credits shouldn't be handled with dividers though.

I've seen group credits with:
1. Divider with no roles given
2. Divider with everyone with the same role
3. No divider with everyone with the same role.

I wouldn't vote no to #2 or #3.  #2 seems redundant but if if they view the cast in another profile, it won't list a role there.

I agree with you on #2, Doc.

But t your central comment different users seem to be defining group roles as the same as dividers and in my book they just are two different issues.

Divider
Actor
Actor
Actor
Actor
This appears in the same form essentially as Rest of cast or whatever...it's a divider.

A group role I woud define as follows

Role Actor
      Actor
      Actor

It could be called hair splitting i suppose, but a group role has a different appearance to a Divider.

Television series in particular often have:

Featuring
Starring
Introducing
Special Guest
and several others

between cast or groups of cast. Are we going to insert them too? I hope not!

Those are typically used in the opening credits.  We ignore those with the exception that the opening credits are not included in the end credits.  I've never seen dividers used for opening credits before.
