Hi,

got a little problem here... The opening credits of the movie read "Schnitt: Michael Schaerer" and the end credits "Schnitt: Mike Schaerer"... both meaning Editor and being the same person... but which one do I enter in the Profiler?

The rules give no guidance on this so I checked the CLT.  There are no credits for 'Mike Schaerer'.  'Michael Schaerer', on the other hand, returns 4 titles (8 profiles) so I would probably go with that.

There you are wrong again. Though your advice is sound. The Rules do specifically tell us where to take the data from...the end credits. In THAT vein alone, if there is a spelling mismatch the end credits WIN by Rules. But as I said your advice was sound anyway.

I don't believe they do. Would you mind pointing me to where the rules say this?

You are correct, Crew credits do not specify where to take them from -

Quote:
Crew and Cast
Take Crew Credits from the film credits only; list names exactly as they are in the credits. Exception: If the credit information is entirely capitalized, use standard capitalization rules instead.

Use the "Credited As" field where the person's name differs from the credited name.

List individual credits only, not company name credits.

To determine whether to enter the name directly as credited, or to use the "Credited As" field, use the Credit Lookup tool.

Do not enter union/guild affiliations, such as A.C.E. and B.O.E.

Enter birth years only when necessary to differentate between two actors with the same name. When submitting a contribution that adds a birth year to one or more credits, list justification in the contribution notes.

Cast and crew images are not contributed with the profile.

Group names of crew members together within each role available and list in exactly the same order credited. The table below gives each of the crew roles available within DVD Profiler. For each category, include only those people credited with the roles listed in the "Role" and "Credited As" columns. If someone is not credited with one of these roles (or direct translations of these roles), do not include them in the Crew section.

NOTE: Crew entered with a role of "Other" will NOT upload as part of your contribution, and are for your local use only. Crew with a standard role selected will contribute without the Custom Role, if one is entered.

I missed the editor part. But it would be rational to apply the same logic to crew that applies to cast in an unusual case such as this. Otherwise you open the door for another endless back and forth.

The rules don't say where to take the crew credit from but why should it be any different than for cast?

I say, go with what is in the end credits.

Okay, that's what I thought. I just wanted to point out that, contrary to what Skip said, the rules do indeed not address this for the crew section. Having said that, I'm obviously fine with any sort of consensus on this - I find myself running into this problem more and more these days. So I'll happily support using the end credits.

99.9% of the time, I read the rules before I respond.  Since I did so in this case, I am not wrong.  Other than "from the film credits," the rules are silent on this issue.  Since I wasn't wrong, and my advice was sound, there should be no further need for discussion.  Simply follow the sound advice.

Since I had already said I missed the editor part, i am trying to figure out the purpose for this. It seems unnecessarily inflammatory.

They don't and rightly so since many films don't have end credits.

I didn't read the entire thread before I responded.  When I got to your post, which incorrectly stated that I was wrong, I responded.
