DVD Aficionado has a neat little feature where you can see, with just a little click, who has a particular DVD. Does Profiler have anything like that in the actual application?

No, it's been requested a few times before but so far, for whatever reason (privacy is often mentioned by users), Ken hasn't chosen to add this.

Maybe Ken will make it an option for "DVD Profiler Online Plus". Privacy wouldn't be a big problem, everone could enable/disable it via "My Profiler" --> "User Settings"

He could also just keep it at numbers...no need for names/alias.

This is one thing I miss from my DVDspot days. It's just kind of nice to know how many people own a particular disc. I'm not sure how the whole privacy thing holds much merit due to exactly what LJG says. No reason to have names/alias, just straight numbers. There would be no possible way for someone to pin point who owns it, just that there are "x" number of people who own it.

Somebody used to maintain a site that ran the numbers of those who volunteered I don't remember who.

I think it comes down to that some weren't keen on that their collections could still be checked on for statistic purposes even if it's only by Invelos. Of course, if there's an opt in/out then there shouldn't be a problem but you know what conspiracy theorists are like

It would be nice to also have it for titles, not just discs (EANs), to see which are the most popular movies.

It could be based off the online collection, too.  That way those who don't want it, don't have to upload it (an opt in/out button would be good too).

Actually Ken has said it himself that there arent any public statistics because Invelos wants to maintain a high level of privacy for its users.

That potentially exposes actual usage of DVD Profiler. There are titles that everybody seem to have (The matrix?), and by looking through all localities/title variations you can make a guesstimate of DVD profiler's actual user group size.
Since Invelos / Intervocative once prided herself on half a million users (or downloads) it really provides a cross check.

Since Invelos is a private company I'm not sure it is wise to provide this query facility, even if Invelos would have confidence in the numbers turning up on the size of the actual users group.

You sure that all the users want to give information that they own that latest Pirates porn movie? What about something that isn't mainstream? Invelos doesnt want to say to its users that "we are collecting private data of your collections" (at least thats how i understood Ken's stance on this). If they can do it anonymously, maby a bot that could harvest the data from all public collections could work?

Ken once provided a short list of the most owned titles, without the numbers.
Anyone else remember that?

You could always exclude adult titles, same as for the online collections. Besides, I'm not interested in who, only what.
