I know we have done this one in the past.  I am putting it up now though because I have recently made a friend who has been great.  He offers to loan me his DVD's regularly if it is a film I do not have.  The problem is when we talk collections he always say, "Wow, that is a great flick do you think I could borrow it sometime."  He has the love of the collection and collecting that I do so I know it would come back in mint condition in a timely basis.  But then I think to the other person I loan to who loves my collection often offers up theirs but a let me borrow until next week turns into a month or more.  So take the poll and let me know if I have gotten mean or crazy in my old age.

Absolutely not! Not even to my closest friends and family! I learned my lesson when I was collecting VHS. Never again will they leave my house! But if they want to come over and watch a movie or two I am more then happy to have them over.

It really depends on who it is. I don't know anyone else who has a collection like mine but there are a few who I trust to take care of them.

Same here. But in general I will be VERY reluctant to loan them out.

In general, I do not loan out my DVD's. I have 2 friends who have huge DVD and CD collections, and know how to handle the discs. They are the only ones I trust.

All the others, just like Pete said, are welcome to come over and watch it at my place.

There are 3 people I let borrow DVDs.  Each of them I see all the time and they know how much I value my collection.

I've learned my lesson with anyone else.  If I were to make a new acquaintance, who might happen to ask to borrow something, I might let them borrow something I could replace cheaply to see if they could be trusted (something I could get for $1 at my store).  But I wouldn't let them borrow anything that would be difficult or expensive to replace until they had proven themselves.

And I'd known them for a few years.  And I knew where they lived and had refrigerator privileges.  Like I could just walk into their house and eat something in their fridge.  That's me and my 3 peeps that I do let borrow.
If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world.

My answer is "almost" the third one, but mostly #2 NO but without the insult. So I didn't submit a vote.

No loans anymore.  I've learned my lesson on loaning things to people.  That also played into the "no roommates ever again" policy I have.

No loans to friends, only immediate family and only for 3 days if any damage they know I will raise Hell and I will get a replacement even when my wife says I shouldn't be so strict.

I loan to my sisters, parents and best friend who will all replace if anything is damaged and know that they need to take care of them. since my collection was stolen last year I will not lend to anyone else as I am struggling to replace those that were stolen!
I am also more than willing to have people over to watch anytime and I will enjoy with them!

I loan them happily to my good friends and family, if someone breaks something they need to rebuy it for me , but luckily that hasn't happened so far

It happens, but I try to make it as difficult for them as I can by buying non-region 2/PAL titles without Swedish subtitles.

I try to give away my old copies when I upgrade though.

I loan to 3 (now technically 2) people

1) my brother, he also has a collection and I know will take care of my discs. I'd probably loan to my other brother cause he would take care of it too but he's not as into movies as me and has netflix anyway. Even the brother I loan to doesn't borrow that much

2) my fiancee, though now that we live together and have merged our collections there is no need to

3) my fiancee's best friend...cause she makes me. I tried to put my foot down and say know but you can figure out how good that worked out. Her friend knows to take care of my dvds though. They (her and her boyfriend) did swap around all my Rocky discs when they returned them to bust me though

In college I had a pretty open policy with my frat brothers, just a sign out sheet so I knew where they were. Only had one case get damaged (from an inebriated person peeling off the security sticker  )

When I started to collect DVD's I had one friend who also was a collector. I loan it to him, and then it was two other friends that I trusted, movies came back in a reasonable time and not a mark on them. Then there was another friend that loaned some movies, but after I got the first batch home again, and saw scratches and fingerprints on them, he couldn't loan anymore.

These days it's only my father and occasionally my sister who loans from me, but as Kinoniki said, I also buy movies from USA/ Canada, and I know they haven't regionfree player, so much of the movies stay put here
I also give away movies when I upgrade them to BD. I thought I would have my BD collection to myself untill my father bought my old BD player (not multiregion) and he started to loan them as well. But then again, most are from USA/Canada without Norwegian subs, and he must have subs
