I have been thinking about a request that some of us has made to have a way to note when TV Series releases has a Play All feature. I know I personally would like to know ahead of time if there is a Play All feature on the TV releases (and possibly release of shorts?) But I wanted to check here before going through my somewhat extensive TV series collection.

I can see how some would think that this is not a true feature added to the DVD like deleted scenes, commentaries or what have you. But it is definitely similar to scene selection which is in the features menu... and same could be said of features such as Closed Captioning and THX.

I never seen this done before... so wanted to check in here first before doing it... so what do you think? is the Play All feature a good addition to the profiles?

I think it is very useful information (and definately a feature), and would even go as far as to ask for  another tick box added for it.

Yes, definitely useful information.  When I do reviews for digitallyobsessed.com I routinely take off points if there is no "Play All" button or feature.

In principle it would be useful information, yes. However there ARE sets on which this feature does not work the way probably you and I would expect it to work. Right now I'm in the tedious process of profiling a box set with 56 shorts, and while the disc menus contain a Play All option, all that happens if you use it is once the first short has finished is take you back to the menu - admittedly, pointing at the second short...

I've seen this before with a box of TV documentaries, as I recall.

In short: not all "Play All" options really play all...

Oh I would definitely rather have a play all check box... but was thinking this would at least give us the info until we get such a thing.

Actually for some of us that watching a huge amount of TV on DVD it is a pretty big deal. For me it's definitely a bigger deal  then to know if a movie has a menu option for scene selection.

I like the suggestion & am sometimes puzzled as to how companies decide whether or not to include it.

For example, seasons 1-3 of a series have it, season 4 doesn't, season 5 does & I don't have 6 yet. Why they chose not to include it for 1 season is beyond me

I watch quite a few TV series & definitely prefer it when I can just push one button and sit back and relax!

Pete:

I suspect that you KNOW how much TV I have.   I have found that generally speaking it appears that the larger distributors include this possibility, while oft times the public domain outfits

There are a lot of things i see that I just consider minutiae, not really worthy of capturing, this just happens to be one of those. Especially when I stack it up against things which I would place much higher on the priority list, and of more use to more users, like better definition of Features PERIOD.

Sorry Skip... but that is so very far off...

some examples..

All these are Larger Distributors but do not have Play All
- Buffy the Vampire Slayer (At least some seasons) (going by memory)
- Charmed (at least some seasons) (going by memory)
- Friday the 13th: The Series (Checked)
- JAG (Checked)
- Joan of Arcadia (Checked)
- NCIS (Checked)
- CSI (Checked)
- Bones (Checked)

And that is just from a quickie search and going by a couple I remember from working with lately. So believe me... there is a huge number of releases from "Larger Distributors" that really do not offer this feature.

And as for you just not finding it important enough,,, wonderful... that is all fine and good... but you should realize that there is just as many people out there that do find it worth adding as there is that don't. See this poll so far for proof of that.

My example above was for NCIS. I forgot to mention that my seasons 1-3 are the UK releases while 4 & 5 are US so they might not tie up with their counterparts.

What I "love" even more than a missing Play All feature is an unclear order of episodes in the menu.

Third season of Buffy was

1 3
2 4

Fourth season was

1 2
3 4

(or the other way around)

I am nottrying to belittle it. But what's next...a chapter list? We could all make an argument for one. Just like i could argue for your proposition. I am merely saying that i don' think it's a big deal, there are far bigger fish to fry first.
