I want to sell a few DVDs of my collection. And so it would be quite nice if there is a field for my selling-price an a relevant marker, so that a further feature creates a html-file with the list of the movies to sell.
By now i have to create a 2nd database and delete the sold items from the 1st one.

This isn't likely to be added as the software isn't licensed for commercial use. It's the same reason why you can't add the same UPC/EAN more than once to a database.

That can be a little annoying sometimes. I do have multiple copies of some titles. I bought the Leprechaun box set which contains the first 5 movies, and then I also one time bought a horror box set, which among other titles contained the first Leprechaun movie. So now, the horror box set is missing Leprechaun as a child profile.

I also have multiple copies of a few favorite HD DVDs, as I got them for $1 a short while back.

I'm sure many of us have multiple copies of some DVDs.  But a way to handle that data is in the notes field, where you can add things like the price paid, vendor, purchase date, etc. for the second (or multiple) copy(ies).  If you want to know which titles you have more than one of, use a tag for them.

I doubt that there are many users who will benefit from a "selling price" field as you suggest.  But maybe I'm wrong about that.

Don't see it, don't need it, don't want it. As noted the retail environment is not the design of this program, and in that setting I can understand wanting to keep track of sold titles. There are Retail Inventory programs, now of course they cost real money. But, Profiler is merely designed to be a PERSONAL collection management program.

But I'd like to see a "loaned" tab where I can add movies from the rental store and a "sold/giveaway" tab which would keep my watched history intact.

I would hardly call selling a few dvd's "commercial use" as commercial implies the selling of DVD's to make profit. All I want to do is keep a track of what my DVD collection is costing me which is part of the management of my collection.

After all why do we have a "Buying price" other than for our own interest as it is not a cataloguing function. Surely it would be of interest to everyone to know what our collection has cost us and it would be very easy to add a "Collection Cost" report.

If you sell a DVD from your collection it isn't part of you collection anymore.

That's the way I see it too, Kulju. I an trying very hard to understand why I would want to keep a record of what i no longer own, I can understand it from the view point of a store, but what good does it do ME as s collector. If I decided to get rid of a film and sold it, then why do I want to keep up with what I once owned. Even using to track whether or not I watched the sold me seems totally irrelevant if i don't own it, but then some people seem to liek to track their rentals... different strokes I guess, but it doesn't make any sense to me.

If you watch a lot of films surely it is sensible to keep a record of all the films you have seen to avoid seeing or even buying/renting them again ?  For me the worse a film is the harder it is I find to remember it although there are plenty of good films I have to read the plot before I can remember if I have seen it before. I am sure my wife and I are not alone in this and she sometime swears blind she hasn't seen a film before I show her 10 minutes of it.

A DVD collection is made up of all the titles you want or would like, so to manage it properly you need a record of all the films you don't want for whatever reason.

If it were only a way to mark a DVD as one you used to own that would be OK but the original request was to have a way of listing a sell price. Just that bit alone would cross the boundary between personal use & commercial use or at the very least be very close to it.

Not to be critical, delboy, but i have never experienced that. I can't tell you but I can tell you that at some point in the distant past I have seen what is the acknowledged worst film ever. I still haven't seen anything worse, but even it has a place in film history. I leave it to you figure out the film...shouldn't be too hard.

BTW Forget, I agree.

"Acknowledged" worst film ever.  I have no idea. Tell me

So you can remember the name of every film you ever saw and it's plot ????? Actually I was wrong in saying the worse a film is the easier it is to forget. The really bad ones are easy to remember. I saw one last week "The mistress of spices". One of those films that is so bad you have to watch it all. I will never forget that one.  It is usually the ones you see on TV late at night and that follow the same old plot lines that I can't even remember a week later.

Going back to my original post, having got carried away one year I set myself a budget to work to so I don't spend any more than £250 a year on DVD's. Surely I am not the only person out there working to a budget? OK I can (and do) keep a check on it with an excel spreadsheet but this is duplicating information that is already available in my DVD Profiler collection.

Exactly my point. I wouldn't mind "Rented" or "Sold" tabs, but the point of sell price I don't get.

The point is help to keep within a budget.

I could ask what is the point of having an purchase price ?
