There's a contribution adding someone as uncredited with notes solely saying that they knew the person.

Currently I'm the only "No" to 15 "Yes" votes. My reason for voting this way is that it would allow anyone to add anyone to a film regardless of whether or not they actually appeared.

One of the "Yes" people responded with -

An element of trust is required, and the source is documented. Otherwise we might as well not trust any web page, because they may be lying :-)

While that's true to an extent, we don't accept a single 3rd party source which this effectively is as it's not the person involved. Even if it's the official site, I would try to back it up.

Thoughts/comments?

I agree with you... I would vote no as well if that is there only source. In my opinion any source given must be verifiable by the voters and screeners.

I believe that the checkbox to submit uncredited allows you to either copy from another Invelos profile or vouch that you've seen the film. Knowing the person exceeds that requirement. If I can recognize Robin Williams in an uncredited cameo, even though I don't know him, all I have to say is I've watched the film and recognize him. I don't have to look up 3 web references for it.

bUT OTHER VOTERS MAY NOT BE ABLE TO VERIFY IT, JAMES. That's a real stretch. Abd you know I do not agree ATALL or EVER with simply coopyingdata from a Profile that has niot been previously documented, even if it has been grandfathered. IF the data has been documented previously then all you should do is copy the notes that are relevant to that data. Why should I rrust yiou when say " It si because I say it is." I will provide NO documentation of any kind but i say it you have to believe me....in a word...BULL.

I have an uncredited appearance in The Final Season. Should I just add it?

I presume you are serious, Ace. I also guess you are would not be credited as Ace of sevens. This can get very sticky, very quickly, Ace. I have "known" you for many years, Ace. Here is a piece of known information users at another database had themselves inserted into cast list or (worse) Crew data of films and sometimes that data has been uncovered to be completely false and the names were removed. So while i don't wish to ask or challenge you, we need some safeguards of some kind to prevent possible abuse.  this causes me to rethink what I previously said, now the question is what sort of safeguards can be employed, if it's the only film in which you have appeared. Would a picture of you (or some other user making such a claim be sufficient) to compare against a screen cap, I don't know. THis suddenly seems to be rife with potential for fraudulent exploitation by users. This is one reason I have never listed myself in Tank, it's the only film I have ever appeared in on camera and I am just a face in the crowd, from a helo shot, no less. I could provide a time stamp and a description of where I was in the crowd, but I never believed that to be sufficient...only perhaps for those that KNOW me and what I look like.<shrugs>

Now this becomes a conundrum. Hmmmmmm

I think it is great thet they know them.  It is not proof.

If they can ID the person, then it should not be much of a problem getting the time mark in the dvd, where this person appears.

Here's what it says:

Quote:
This contribution contains uncredited cast entries. Please submit uncredited cast only if:

    * You have personally identified the cast by viewing the film
    * -OR- The cast is copied from a previously accepted profile with documented uncredited cast

Be sure to specify the source in your contribution notes

Therefore, yes, you can personally identify an uncredited appearance. You can also copy from another Invelos profile if the uncredited is documented there. It's pretty clear.

You are always looking for a short cut. Why would you NOT simply copy over the documentation instead of arrogantly expecting people who don't know you to trust you. It is exaactly this attitude that prevents me from accepting most of your updates, i do not trust lack of documentation from ANYONE.  As I have said many times I will not ask it of you and it insults me that you would ask it of me.

I won't say what I am REALLY thinking , James other than you can be part of the solution or the problem and you want to be the problem, and simply create an undocumented clone. Such a pity. You have made it clear that you will do the absolute minimum that you can get away with, even if more would be of benefit to all, you have said so so many times that it becomes tiresome.

Instead of turning this into a personal attack on me (which you have just done), the true path to what you refer to as a "solution" would be to convince Invelos to do things your way.

If I say "yes, indeed, Skip you are so right. I will do it your way" that accomplishes nothing. The instruction I've quoted above from Invelos remains the same.

That's where you need to direct your attention; not at me personally.

I am not attacking you, I am extremely disappointed in how sloppy you have become in your own Contributions and what you are willing to accept. Sorry, my friend, but I call it like I see it and that is the way i see it. Sadly, the end result of it is that it does, admittedly color both my opinion of your comments and my respect for you. If you view that as an attack then so be it, its your issue, but I am being honest with with you in viewpoint.. The comment you quote in my view is the minimum standard and we can do so much more that is of benefit to the community and I think that the benefit to the Community in quality Contributions AND Notes represents a far higher calling than you saying this is the minimuym and that is all I am going to do, and i will not back it.

You don't have to back it. It is what it is. If you want everyone to do more than that, convince Invelos.

Well, you've convinced me.  I've pretty much stopped contributing, except for little stuff that nobody will argue over.  Well, that and covers.  I'll still contribute scans because I find them to be less grief.  Ironic, because when I first started to contribute, the scans seemed to be the most challenging.

The topic of this thread is "Knowing the person an acceptable source for uncredited?" The answer to that question, based on the direction Invelos provides in the contribution screen, is YES. I haven't said what I'm satisfied with or what is "best" or anything other than what my understanding is regarding Invelos' standard on the subject, as shown on that screen.
