Not sure if this was ever covered before, but is DC Comics a production company, and if so when did it become one. Can't seem to find any info saying that it is, I always thought Warner Bros. was it's production company besides it parent company.

I don't know if it is or isn't one, it is given credit in the opening credits. I left it out in my local because of this very ambiguity. **Shrugs**

I haven't found any information yet but, if they are given a production company credit, I enter it as one.
No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever.
There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom.
Against this power, governments and tyrants and armies cannot stand.
The Centauri learned this lesson once.
We will teach it to them again.
Though it take a thousand years, we will be free.

There is way too much agreeing and cooperation going on around here these days. It has been too long since I got to verbally female canine-slap someone and I think I am suffering withdrawal.

(for the record I have been entering DC comics when credited as well).

Do I see a consensus forming?   I think this is a good thing. and it makes sense.
I'll change my local accordingly and see what happens.

Whether it is or is not a production company depends on the credits. Eg. the only reference to DC Comics in Batman and Robin is in the opening credits: "Based on the DC Comics". That is not a production company credit. Therefore I voted yes to a recent contribution on removing DC Comics from the production companies.

But I still have vague memory that in some movies DC comics is credited as a production company. Spider-man or the later Batmans? On first four Batmas it is as you said "Based on the DC Comics".

It wouldn't be Spider-Man ... that's a Marvel title.

Might be the Batmans though, since that's a DC title.

If Marvel is a production studio, and my Spider-Man, X-Men, Punisher, Ghost Rider, Iron Man, etc. say it is, then DC is as well. They are the owners of the properties like Batman and Superman.
I think the older Bat and Super movies only said "based on the DC comics", but now there's a DC logo on front of the new movies, which sounds like they are a movie production company, which they would have to be to keep up with Marvel.

It's probably due to comic movies used to be frowned upon, but since the ante has been upped and now comic movies are popular. So instead of licensing the characters out for cheap like they used to, they are producing the movies themselves since the movies are making money now.

That is not a valid argument: if A is a production company, then B is too, just because it owns the franchise.

Exactly, if there is a company name or logo where we usually expect to see a production company name, it is to be treated that way. Otherwise ("based on the DC comics") not. In Batman Begins there is a logo and it should be credited as a production company. Even though we do not know just based on that logo what it actually did for the movie.

Again, not a valid argument. We are not looking for harmony between different company credits.

Marvel is its own Company, where DC Comic is a Time Warner company. DC Comics has Warner Bros. for its production company. Where Marvel licenced the characters out like Spider-man with Sony and X-Men with Fox, until now because it has Marvel Studios.

I have never seen so many agree with the same thing without any proof other than a logo,
I guess thats why Constaintine has Vertigo DC comics as a production company, adding by Logo
