I select option 2. Simply because that's how I read them: from column 1 to column 2.

I agree with jykke.  I read top to bottom column 1 then column 2, so that is the way that I enter them.

Obviously, there is nothing in the rules, which would make either correct (or incorrect).

I agree & that's how I would do it. However, I don't think that (many) people would vote "No" on either option.

I have always gone with option 2 when I have done ones like that in the past

Personally i'd choose option 1. That's how i always add it.

Wouldn't vote No to the other though.

I would use Option 1.  But first I would check the entire credits crawl for any alphabetized sections.  If there were any I would use that as an indication of the intended order.

I choose option 1, because in longer credits you can't see the complete columns at once and the human eye tends to read from left to right (at least in languages based on the alphabet). But I wouldn't vote no on option 2.

I look for alphabetical order first.  If it exists i will follow that.  Otherwise Option 2.
Bad movie?  You're soaking in it!

Option 1 is more natural, IMO. If the list is long, I don't want to hit the backward button in order to be able to start reading the "2nd column". That would be clumsy.

A related question, what do you do with two credits on the screen, one in the lower left corner and one in the upper right?

Agreed, think abiout trying to read a really long list top to bottom, then repeat for the next column, you will not make it. The human mind reads left to right, in most cases , so that is the way I usually list them. But if someone lese has already done a top to bottom, I won't argue the point, nor will I accept it.

Note: There are ocassional exceptions to either method, from time to time depending on the filmmakers you will discover that they are actually listing the data in alpha order, either top to bottom or left to right, when that is true, I follow the alpha order.

Is it a "standard" top to bottom crawl, if so then top, but remember there are instances where filmmakers use reverse crawls.

I treat it the same way I read, left to right and top to bottom, so option 1.
No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever.
There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom.
Against this power, governments and tyrants and armies cannot stand.
The Centauri learned this lesson once.
We will teach it to them again.
Though it take a thousand years, we will be free.
