I am auditing the Blu-ray, Box Set, version of X2 and came across this credit.  Since the uniforms are costumes, and the crew chart has a 'Costumes by' credit, I was going to include it.  But, before I did, I decided to ask for opinions.

Costume Designer, yes or no?
No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever.
There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom.
Against this power, governments and tyrants and armies cannot stand.
The Centauri learned this lesson once.
We will teach it to them again.
Though it take a thousand years, we will be free.

Is there any other Costumes credit?
If there's a Cosutme Designer in the open or end credits I would think that overrides this by how the rules are worded, or by how I recall them. Although in this case, the uniforms are probably the most important costumes in the film and should get credit.

Good qusestion, looking forward to see how it plays out.

Is 'X-Men Uniforms by' a direct translation of 'Costumes by'? IMO it's not, but it's rather a functional equivalent. Unfortunately the current wording of the rules do not allow those. WE need some rule change here or at least a clarification from Invelos.

When i updated the Crew for the individual Blu-ray releases last week i left the "X-Men Uniforms by" credit off because there was already a Costume Designer credit.

Would i vote against it?  Probably not.  But my preference would be not to add it when there is a specific Costume Designer credit listed.
Bad movie?  You're soaking in it!

No. There is not "Uniforms by" in the crew roles list of the rules.

Meaning, IMHO, that the latter will result in his first official credit as costume designer in DVD Profiler as well.

Personally I would include it.

Let's say that in Superman: The Movie that someone got credited with "Superman's Uniform designed by".
But also in the opening credits there is a Costume Designer credit too.

Would we really want to not include someone who designed such an important aspect of the film just because the poor wording of the rules excludes it according to some?

Isn't the X-Men Uniforms an important aspect to the film?

Especially since it's not yellow spandex.

Or you could say that because he did designed costumes for X-Men he could be entered that way.

It's an aspect, yes - but there are many, many aspects we don't track in DVD Profiler. The bio Daddy DVD links to refers to it as "specialty costumes". Well, supplying a few "specialty costumes" is not the same as being the film's "costume designer" - which is why someone else is credited for that. There's a reason why the film-makers didn't award both joint "costume designer" credits. We can guess as to why they didn't do so, but we know for a fact that they didn't. This is exactly the kind of job progression you can track locally, if you really want to, but IMHO it really doesn't belong in the general starting point that is the online database. There's a costume designer credited - that's the one we're after, IMHO. Again: if the filmmaker's felt it was worth an equal "costume designer " credit, they had given it to him. But when they don't, we shouldn't either.

But that's the same as the old "additional music by" credits debate. There too, we've always had users that felt: if he composed something, he gets a "composer" credit. But it doesn't work that way: the "composer" credit is reserved for the actual composer of the film's score, and "additional music by" can only be tracked locally. IMHO, this is the exact same thing: there is a general "costume designer" credit, and any additional/specialty/whatever stuff does not qualify for an equal credit.

But yet users are also entering costume supervisors as designers what they aren't, so...
