I was wondering if there was an interest for a thread (could be this one or I could make it in the DVD Profiler Online forum) where users can do scans of covers for re-released titles, put them up on a free hosting site (like Image Shack) and post them here for other users to save and use in their DVDP?

I thought of this a few months ago and I remembered the idea after voting on a recent submission for The Omen IV. So, would there be any interest in that kind of thing?

I think there would be a lot of interest. I certainly think it's a good idea.
Maybe we should put a size limit on them though, 500 x 700 just like the online?

I agree with it. I have a few re-release covers I can add... but I also have several I still need. So a place to request re-release scans would be good too.

Yeah, definitely. Same kind of rules apply, of course here it'd be suggested (and it's the choice of the user's whether or not to upload). If there is more interest, I can start another thread in the DVDP forum (or would here be the more appropriate place?) and have it like the Accepted Birth Years with links to the images (with the user's name for credit).

You should ask for a pinned topic , like the Birth Year topic. I suppose the images will have to be hosted offsite. I still have room over at Mediafire where I host my monthly headshot updates.

Good idea, this topic should be pinned here.

I've got a number of scans I've done as well, but with no ability to host.  If there's a location to plop them in, I'd be happy to share.

Just curious, does a site like Image Shack downgrade the image quality?

I'm all in favor of a thread to post re-issue covers to!

According to Image Shack's FAQ they do not change the images in any way as long as they're under 1.53mb, however their terms don't allow copyrighted material so I don't know how they'd feel about cover scans.

Yeah, I don't know. I figured that'd be the easiest way as people can iindependently upload their scans and post the link here (and I'd just edit the first post with those links).

I would suspect that any such site will degrade the image. Here is the BEST answer in my book and whay I have used for years now. All of my images are available to all who request them and they will get the exact same images I use here, not downsized, compressed or anything else. I send my cober scans all over the world on request...how...by email of course. Just drop me a PM and i will be more than happy to send them out, each front and rear set is approximately 3-4 MB per set, so just make sure you have enough room in your mailbox.

Some sites like File Den don't compress or alter uploaded images, no matter what the size of the file is.

I don't think Photo Bucket does either, though I could be wrong there.

I suppose the best thing to do would be to simply try it and see!
I'm at work at the moment, so can't access my scans, but it try and upload a couple tonight.
