Hi,

I am sure there is a simple answer to this, but I haven't found it yet.  I have a few box sets, such as The Godfather DVD Collection, which is not showing each individual movie.  I was kind of expecting it to show up in the list with a little + sign or something.  I downloaded the profile which matches my UPC, and no cast or crew is listed.  I assume that is because they are listed per movie but I am only seeing the exterior box.  In this case, each DVD does not have an individual UPC although I do have other Box Sets (such as The Nightmare on Elm Street Collection) which do have each DVD in their own snapper complete with UPC.

In both cases, I would like the Box Set to show up in the list as the main entry, and then I would click on a little plus sign to see the movies contained within that box set (complete with cast lists, crew, etc.).  I am sure there is an easy way to do this, I just haven't found it yet (have owned DVDP for all of 4 days so far....)

So how do I "activate" box sets?

Thanks,
DD.

As it currently stands, box sets don't automatically download the child profiles & need to be set up manually. If the individual films have their own UPC you can add them by that, otherwise they are added by disc ID.

Once the separate films have been added, edit the main box set, go down to "Box Set Contents" and search for the films to add to the list.

Hopefully auto adding child profiles will be added later.

Start DVD Profiler. From the Menu click on DVD>Add to Collection. In the Add DVDs to Owned window select the Add Inserted Disc tab. Insert the first disc of the Box Set in your DVD-ROM drive. If DVDP recognizes the disc the title will appear in the title field. Click on Add DVD and the Personalize DVD window will open. Add your personalized info and click OK. Do this for all the discs in the Box Set. Once you've added all the discs click on Add Now to Owned.

Now locate your Box Set parent profile and double-click the title to enter Edit mode. Select Box Set Contents on the left side of the edit screen and search at the bottom for the titles that you just entered and assign them to the parent profile.

Edit: Also, when you insert a disc and DVD Profiler doesn't recognize it, a message box will pop up asking if you wish to add it manually to your collection. Clicking yes will open the Add DVDs to Owned window and you can select the Add Inserted Disc tab then.

Just wondering, you say you have owned DVDP for all of 4 days, yet your registered date is May 27, 2007

Is it possible he downloaded the program to try and registered on the website back on May 27th 2007, but choose not to use, being a DVDSpot user?

Then has come back since DVDSpot now defunct so has no option but to use the Best DVD DB  going

Good points , But don't forget,, Rooster,  IF you don't have the DISC id entered or is wrong you'll also get this message. best thing to do when you see that message is to say NO, and then highlight the title , double click to open, then click open 'Discs'., and then either 'add disc' or click on 'set' with the Title in question currently sitting in your DVDROM player . A Program such as Cyberlink PowerDVD with be able to read the disc ID and set it accordingly.

Maybe you are, but it won't affect my registered date  :-).  That date reflects the first time I registered for this forum.  However, I discovered DVDSpot at the same time, and since that product was free and did the same thing, it was a no-brainer.  However, now that DVDSpot has closed down, here I am again.  Actually, I am quite proud of myself since I remembered my username/pw from a forum I hadn't used in 17 months.  Also, I bought a license for DVDP just this past week, so that is the first time I actually got serious about using it.

Not to derail this thread, but I've got a question regarding box sets too.  I totally understand the parent / child thing and the different profiles for each disc thing.  My question comes from the profiles for box sets that incorporate each specific disc.

For example, the Original TV Christmas Classics set contains 4 discs.  The profile for this DVD includes the Disc ID information for each disc.  So when I put the separate disc into my DVD drive to add it by disc ID, it just went right to the profile for the set.  Is there a way to enter this disc separately like the countless other sets that are set up like this?

James:

Allow me to refer to the specific section regarding TV Series. You will find that two methods are accomodated buy the Rules. There are users who want to treat a given Season as a single title and want to have a mmoth list of cast and crew data, for reasons which I, personally still don't comprehend, then there are users like myself who handle them as we would  any other boxset, which each disc contqining the data relevant to that disc 4 to 8 episodes per profile versus one profile with up to 40 Episodes worth of data.

Both methods are accomodated which leaves you the choice of how YOU want to deal witrh it.

Are you requesting a way to download the profiles for these Disc ID's?

If Yes..before you place the DVD in your computer drive, go to the Add DVD screen, click on add by Title Tab...beside the little box for you to type in the title is a tick box "Full Substring Filter" tick this, in the title box type " Disc" (please note there is a SPACE before Disc) this will show all DVD's in your filtered Region & Locality that have been submitted by Disc ID, then just find the title you require, add to your collection, then assign to the relevant Box Set.

Thanks Steve.  That was exactly what I was looking for.  I tried your suggestion and it came up with quite a few listings, but the titles I was looking for were not among them.  The Christmas set I mentioned above was just one of the sets I was looking for.  Another example is the recent release of the Dragon Ball Z 2 pack with The History of Trunks and Bardock: Father of Goku. Neither of them show up either.  Any suggestions?

If the Xmas set you are looking for is this UPC (074645861395) there may not be child profiles created.  They aren't required for TV shows (though this could arguably be considered a box set, but i digress) and perhaps no one has created and/or submitted them.  It never occurred to me to do it for this set.

And if we are talking about the same set there would only be 3 child profiles possible.  In mine the fourth disc is a CD, and a Disc ID can't be generated for that one.
Bad movie?  You're soaking in it!
