I have been working on a TV series and doing the cast & crew lists using the new features of 3.0.3.

I can cut and paste the cast lists to help speed up things when entering the individual episode information, but I can't edit the crew lists at all.  Even after pasting the crew data from disc one into disc two, and trying to edit it to match disc two data, I ended up having to delete all of it and enter the data one episode at a time in real time.

Is there any reason the crew lists can't be made to work exactly the same as the cast lists?

John,

have you tried copying the crew lists out of DVDP to MS Wordpad as "plain ascii XML" (if that makes sense ). You can see the structure of the data & dividers iand then cut and paste the common crew for each episode. Then you copy the whole lot back to DVDP, and make any adjustments needed for individual episodes (I've even done this bit in Wordpad).

As a reminder: I have updated my Cast & Crew Editor to work with Profiler 3.
You can - instead of pasting it in a text editor - import it to my editor and then edit the cast and crew in spreadsheet. And then export it again to clipboard and paste it into Profiler.
Dividers can be used: Just enter "Divider" (without quotes) into the role field and the caption into the first name field.

No. The problem is that the cast and crew sections don't work the same way.  I can go in and edit the cast and add to the list, even between dividers, but you can't do that with the crew.  So, its pointless to copy the crew data from the first disc of 13 episodes to the crew section on the second disc of 13 episodes, because you can't do any cut and past.  Its far faster to just start from scratch and enter the data from each episode in turn.

You ought to be able to edit both lists identically.  I could use an external program like Tom's I suppose, but I'm standing on principle here.  I shouldn't have to use another program to make Profiler work better.

Why can't you?
Just add what you need and then move it up or down until it is where you want it.

Maybe I am missing some fine point here, but it works fine for me with 3.0.3.

I have to agree with both John and Paul.  John's right that it's a real pain to edit the CREW section.  Until someone pointed out (like Paul did above) that you can MOVE someone across dividers, I though you would have to delete everything from where you want to enter a crewperson to the end -- that you couldn't INSERT any missing data.  But Paul is right, that you CAN move data across dividers.  You just have to do it one at a time.  And this is really a nuisance if you need to add someone to Episode 1 in a list of 20 or more Episodes.  It definitely isn't as easy to do as it is in the CAST section.

Sorry John, but I'm misunderstanding what you're trying to do.

From DVDP, you can right-click/copy your crew data to wordpad, where it appears as "ascii xml". You can then edit it, cut-&-paste it as text, including dividers, and then when you've finished, "select all/copy" it back into DVDP. However you have to be careful to use the built-in crew roles (i believe they are called "credit subtypes"), otherwise DVDP rejects the data.

is this not what you're trying to do?

BTW I also use Tom's program as well....(note plug for TG-Software here.........just put the cheque in the post ,Tom          )

I have tried several times to add to a previously entered episode on the crew side, and while it will let me enter the line, I can't move it across dividers at all.

After you add the line, you need to click on it. It looks like it should have the focus, but until you click on it, it does not.
This has been reported as a bug.

Moving items across dividers works fine here, but only when I click on the arrow buttons. Using the keyboard shortcuts doesn't work.

Keyboard shortcuts work fine for me on the cast side, as does the arrow buttons.  The problem is on the crew side.  I know about clicking on the line item, but it still won't cross the dividers.

This does sound very odd. I remember being able to move crew members across dividers. I did have to be careful as, if I remember correctly, they would lose focus after crossing a divider so I would have to click on them again before moving across the next.
I'm at work at the moment, so can't verify, but can try it tonight.

Well, now it does work.  Don't know what the problem was, but I did a reboot after applying a Windows patch, and now the damn thing works!

Still can't use the keyboard shortcuts though, and it would be great if it stuck the added/edited stuff into the episode under the highlighted divider.  Then I could work on one episode and not have to move all the entries from the bottom each time.

Yup, that's what's happening here, too, when I use the keyboard shortcuts. Doesn't happen when using the arrow buttons, but clicking the mouse button 20+ times in a row is damn annoying.
