Sorry about this.
I should have added the extra options in the 1st poll.

As has been suggested, this is for the common name entry because the 'As credited' field should be exactly as appears on-screen and requires no parsing.

I strongly believe that this method should be used to agree on all actor parsing/common names and the results added to a pinned Actor thread in the forum for all to refer to.

Seems like the fairest, quickest & easiest way to decide.

If it hasn't been agreed by a poll then it should be parsed "As Seen".

Except that even a poll means nothing.  Its all subjective, absent definitive proof- basically personal preference.  And what do you do with somebody that nobody has ever heard of?

Who cares?

We need one common name for linking. Jada Pinkett (Smith) has been billed both ways and after she and Will split up will go back to Jada Pinkett so it makes sense to list her that way.

For someone that we have never heard of, so what ... who cares, cross-linking for a bit player is just not a big deal. Start with /a/b/c/and then if someone finds data that shows otherwise change it.

I went with Jada Pinkett as a common name. Simply because what if tomorrow she decides to divorce Will Smith and no longer wants to be credited as Jada Pinkett Smith like Rebecca Romijn.  Or Courteney Cox did where she got married and started being credited as Courteney Cox Arquette then goes back to just Courteney Cox.

Just have it where all maiden names should be used as common names, regardless who they marry or divorce.

I also think Jada//Pinkett should be used.  There seems to be much agreement that this is/was her name at one point and is consistent.  Credited as needs no parsing, so I believe this would make everyone but Rifter happy (only because I don't think he can ever be happy.)  Just ribbing ya, Rift.

Why does it mean nothing?

Yes, it's subjective, so what. But at least it/these will ultimately create references right here at the Invelos site and no need to find documentation from several thrid party source which need to be cross reference to avoid cherry picking (Just kidding, Skip.

Now remember this poll should be able to solve a lot of questions in one shot.

Basically
For actresses, use her "MAIDEN" name for the Master Name. I put Maiden in quotes because we are dealing with showbiz people after all. Is Nicole Kidman her real name (yes) or a stage moniker.

Hey, it isn't about me being happy.  The one thing that outweighs everything else with me is that the data is entered using the same standards in every field.  You've heard the words before - its called 'data consistency' and it's probably the most important aspect of having a database that is really useable.

We (the users) aren't consistent.  Some fields use one standard, and some use a different standard.  Too many people are letting all this touchy-feely emotional crap determine what gets entered, and it's just plain wrong.

No, this poll is only about one actress. Otherwise we should reword the question and add the result into the rules.

The poll may be about one actress, but it is also about consistency and cuts down on polls , or we will be doing polls from now til hell freezes over. Why would any other actress be treated any differently, Rho. The same things would apply to ANY other actress that apply to Ms. Pinkett-Smith, or do you not understand the concept of consistent data.

These polls are a waste of time. Everybody knows who "Jada/Pinkett Smith" is. So it's more than logical to use that as a common name. The dash is only a reminder that both linked names are last names and not needed if they are put into the last name field.

Obviously not a waste of time, as the democratic majority of voters would actually choose Jada Pinkett as the common name.

I agree RHo!

I think all these kinds of polls prove nothing and ultimately change nothing. Until Invelos provide us with a way to "find" the common name from the main database, or agree to a way of defining one, then we are in no mans land.

These polls based in one individual certainly do not provide a "rule" for all people of similar name structure - that is a leap with no logical basis.

The only thing these polls are good for imo is that it shows that the vast majority of the community do have common sense, can look at a name and see it for what it is, and parse it logically. My faith is somewhat restored.

Of course their are always exceptions!

Man you just have to take your shots, don't you Andrew. BTW I hope you notice that I have not revealed IF I voted or how I voted, that is done deliberately so that I can openly debate the points and the counterpoints

Dunno what you are referring to. My post had nothing to do with you, was not addressed to you. Get off your ego trip.

Skip's 100% right - this poll should indicate how we will handle any actresses who take on a different name after marriage. Seems the "maiden name" is the way to go.
"I am Andrew Ryan and I am here to ask you a question:
Is a man not entitled to the sweat of his own brow?

No, says the man in Washington. It belongs to the poor.
No, says the man in the Vatican. It belongs to God.
No, says the man in Moscow. It belongs to everyone.

I rejected those answers. Instead, I chose something
different. I chose the impossible. I chose…
Rapture."
